Falcon Ranchero Posted February 18 Posted February 18 A successful roof removal off my '57 Chrysler that yeilded promising results for the convertible conversion. Took me an hour or so last night to cut it off, started around 8:20pm and got it off around 9:15pm. Also cosmetically altered my '61 Galaxie as I wasn't terribly pleased with it but now I am. Also painted the exhaust on the chassis of my '59 Lincoln.
bobss396 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Working on an old Southern Stocker Buick. The kit rear was not cutting it. I have a few VCG Resins Dana rears. I cut off the axle tubes, used 1/8" styrene tube and 2 mm brass rod to attach them. New perches are from styrene bar. 1
johnyrotten Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I built a new crossmember/spring mount and leaf spring for the 34 I'm working on. Nothing like taking a dremel to finished work. After some measurements, drawing and surgery the truck has a quick change rear. Here's a mockup of the spring, trying to get the arch and length correct. Also, don't attach things with adhesive strips if you can use screws. Lapse in judgment led to this:
Falcon Ranchero Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Got my Chrysler and Lincoln sprayed today, should be done by tomorrow. 1
oldcarfan Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I sorted some kits up in the storage area, found a couple of treasures, then decided it was too cold and went back in the house! At least I have some projects mapped out for the next few months. In the longer term, I've had a violent cough that is starting to fade. Got tested and it wasn't COVID or Flu. About a week and a half ago, I had a particularly bad bout and felt a sharp pain in my chest. Finally got to see the doc on Monday and had an X-Ray. Turns out I broke one rib and fractured another coughing. Not much to be done for it but to wait for it to heal while the industrial strength cough suppressant does it's best. At least now I know why I hurt so bad putting up the metal storage building last weekend. 1
slusher Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I hope you get to feeling better Gary, I had broken ribs and a cough is painful, if you cough hold a pillow around where your ribs ar broke it helps.. 1
Falcon Ranchero Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Did all the trim detail on both cars, holy smokes that took the whole afternoon. Considering both the cars colours were sprayed over black, they came out pretty nice but ran out of the paint I used for the Chrysler just barely enough left to finish that car.
johnyrotten Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Finished the spring this morning and changed the profile of the mount, trying not to hide the spring so much. Just gotta set the ride height and build some mounts on the axle now. I think the spring looks good, first one I've made. 3

Falcon Ranchero Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Ended up actually completing both cars last night, should be able to put them on the forum tomorrow. 2
oldcarfan Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Did some work on my Cannonballer, cleaned the desk and reorganized a little, then saw a shiny object and got distracted. 1

chryslerjunkandstuff Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Just got over the WORST flu ever.. During moments of lucidity and no pain, I got some stuff done over the past couple weeks.. First one is some fixin on the MPC Super Judge funny car.. I'm thankful that Round2 made this thing available to us at all, for sure! But, I reckon yall probably know that this kit is quite wrong if you wanna build an accurate lookin funny car body.. Check THIS out though, the stock 1969 body in the kit is EXACTLY the same dimensionally as the sweet new '68 GTO kit, and that chassis, glass, and interior tub fits in the 1969 Super Judge body perfectly.. Do with that information what you will.. ANYWAY, the real car that ran in the 1969 season was NOT a stock lookin GTO body like the 1968 season car had, rather, it had a wedge chopped roof, no panel lines except for the doors, no trim, no emblems, had stretched wheel well openings, and some other differences as well.. It also ran Goodyear tires, and had a different set of wheels.. Here's a pic of the real 1969 season funny car : So, I wanted to make my build look a bit more like the real one, WITHOUT gettin in too deep on it so that it'd look a bit cooler on my shelf.. So, I filled panel lines, removed trim, chopped the roof some, totally reshaped the rear spoiler an wheel wells, and I think it looks better now.. The orange glass has also been cut an fitted, an it fits proper, but is just sorta taped in currently.. Also, the kit grille is missing the 1969 grille bars, so I threw a couple of them in too, an it turned out ok.. I'm just gonna finish er up using kit decals an stuff, and it'll suit me.. As a side note, I know where the actual 1969 Super Judge body is, AND I know the dude who owns the original chassis, which became the Boss Bird for the 1970 season.. That car has been fully restored back to the Boss Bird an he races the heel outta that thing! 2
chryslerjunkandstuff Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I also got some stuff done on my AMT Craftsman Plus 1968 GTO.. It's gonna represent one of the 757 GTO hardtops built in '68 with Ram Air and a 4-speed.. Gonna get some of them sweet Fireball Rallye IIs for it.. Removed the GTO lettering from the quarters as the real ones had decals, not emblems, and painted up the taillights properly.. This un will be Verdoro Green.. I absolutely LOVE this kit, and there's plans for at least 3 more builds of em in my future.. 1
chryslerjunkandstuff Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Made some improvements on my MPC '72 GTO too.. You know, the '69 Hurst/Olds chassis fits this thing like a glove, has the correct wheelbase, parts, an everything.. I also swapped in the cowl an core support from the H/O body which was pretty straight forward.. It's a totally different kit now, a million times better after that swap.. It's gonna represent one of the 310 GTO hardtops built in '72 with the 455 H.O. and a 4-speed.. I'm sure I'll do somethin about the quarter window area of the roof, and those flippin headlamps.. And because I really dig this kit now, it's gettin those Canuck3D upgrade parts, an a set of them sweet Fireball Snowflake wheels.. Still need an engine, and probably a better set of tires.. It'll be that light Lime Green metallic color that many, many of these were painted.. 1
chryslerjunkandstuff Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Last one I got anythin done on is one of my all-time favorites, the ol AMT/Ertl '56 Ford Crown Victoria.. It's gonna represent one of the 603 Crown Vics built in '56 with the Skyliner roof option.. If any of you dudes are familiar with powder coating, there's this transparent, incredibly temperature resistant tape that is used to keep threaded parts from getting powder on em, anyway, it's transparent green, dunno what it's actually called, BUT, it is pretty much perfect for replicating the color of the factory tinted plexi top insert on these cars.. Got the Crown installed, roof insert tinted, painted me some whitewalls, an started makin a set of factory fender skirts from the section of roof that I cut out.. Got some California black plates in progress too, BUT, would much rather have some 1956 OHIO plates if any of yall happens to have a pair they'd wanna trade to me.. It'll be two-tone medium green an dark green using factory colors.. 2

Falcon Ranchero Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Began the rebuild of one of THEE worst kits I had put together, my 1980 something Cadillac. Revell’s low rider kit seems to be the only way to get a nice Cadillac from the 80s era but when I got it I was in no position to alter the body or use filler in certain places -UNTIL NOW! When originally building it I tried to make it stock but with the parts I had I ended up making some atrocious, confused looking clown car out of it and kinda hated what I had done to it. The plan is to turn this… …into this, a stock 1983 Coupe DeVille, this particular car being one I’ve had my eye on for years but is unfortunately just rotting away on a mechanic lot. To make this happen, on the plastic car I had to sand off the top trim separating the vinyl top from the roof as it will be pushed back a bit. Have to cut the opera window openings larger, and put in new windows. Sanded off the side trim as I will have to use filler once the body side mouldings are glued in ( gotta sand those down too) and I also have to get rid of the sun roof, which may or may not be easy. The rest are minor detail, but I should be able to at least make it better than that clown car I originally made it out to be. 1

I've been wanting a place to put all the lawn tools so my shop isn't so crowded. Well, it arrived and it's not quite the slap it together fun ride the ad made it seem. Not all the screw holes quite line up so you have to improvise. Still, not too bad for a full day. I was trying to get it finished while the temperature was in the 50s. Didn't quite beat the cold front as the wind has changed around and it'll be in the teens and twenties the rest of the week. Got everything together except the doors and trim and I'll finish that next weekend. Gary - If you live where you get any snow, be sure to pull the snow off the roof with a floor broom or similar. Those sheds Do Not hold up well to any weight on the roofs.
