Mattilacken Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) Hi all! I decided to start on a quick project that i will try to finish the upcoming weeks so i get some motivation to keep going with my other ones ? The thought of this is how the McFly truck would have looked if the movie was made in the '90's instead of '87. So "Look at that 4x4!" What i won’t do is to make it LH drive. There is no such dash in this kit and i don’t want to buy the Surf Hilux just to get the LH dash, don’t feel for building that kit in the future. So RH drive will have to do it if no one have a spare dash laying around and want to sell it to me. This is the Aoshima lifted single cab Hilux with 2wd front end. I have mocked up the suspension with a "2 inch body lift to get the right height for Martys truck. Found some tires in the parts box which are about the right size. The wheels are from the kit and looks about right for the McFly truck! I had to narrow the front track and will do so for the rear as well so the tire tread stick within the body lines. According to all photos of the original I will build a bumper guard outside of the original bumper in front, a custom rear guard and a roll bar. I will make adjustments to my taste but it will look close to the original Next i have to get the 4wd grill and buper to fit good, wich comes from the double cab. I mocked it up, no picture, but it was to far out in this body. I will narrow the rear end by modifying the brake disc by about 2 mm per side. So this is the inspiration: They differ some between the different shots, especially the roll bar. I Will try to make the dubbel loop one. Untill next time. /Anton Edited February 2, 2020 by Mattilacken
Mattilacken Posted January 30, 2020 Author Posted January 30, 2020 So I went home for lunch and made some progress. 4wd front adopted and made to fit.
Cpt Tuttle Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Fun project indeed, I like this generation Hilux very much (as well as most other old minitrucks of course).
Mattilacken Posted February 6, 2020 Author Posted February 6, 2020 Thanks! I got a lite bit of work done. I have started scribing the body lines since they are vague. And I opened the vents on a model for the first time. Did some damage which I tried to repair. Not finished yet but the glue need to cure.
Cpt Tuttle Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 When looking at the grille, I got the idea to do a Taro conversion if I ever get one, probably could work with using for example a Mk2 Golf grille as a basis and cut out the Toyota badge and grille bars...... Or...now when I think about it, I have got an Aoshima kit of this generation, probably possible to do there too, thanks for the inspiration you gave me without knowing....

Hehe always nice when the inspiration comes! Is’t there a PE kit of some sort with a vW badge? So you can have that as a base?
Mattilacken Posted February 13, 2020 Author Posted February 13, 2020 Have made some progress on this build. Panel lines are scribed and the Lou era are done. I customized the grill assy since i think the first version look better in the end. But I wanted the better looking bumper so a strip of styrene was axed to the bottom of the grill. I have also started on the interior. Thanks @Stitchdup for the dashboard! The Hilux will be LHD! It’s to wide but that will be sorted. What I noticed is that the shortbed version don’t come with door cards. So the longcab got to donate the floor pan and full interior! Need to sort the mounting points for the body next. Need to extend the side though Short cab door card Some better detail Modifying floor pans
stitchdup Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Happy to help mate, it would only gather dust here anyway
