Plowboy Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 (edited) I originally built this a long time ago. It's the Stevens International issue kit. I recently gave it a revamp by changing the wheels, adding a splash pan up front to cover the the gap between the grille and bumper from a two scale inch body lift, lights/ bar from the kit, opened the grille and added volunteer fireman plates to finish the look. Thanx for checking it out! Edited February 1, 2020 by Plowboy
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Very nice. I've been wondering if I wanted one. You sold me.
David G. Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Looks great! Have you considered adding some door markings for something like "Jackson, Wyoming Volunteer Fire Dept."? And maybe a brush guard up front with a fire axe on the rear fender? David G.
mikemodeler Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Looks great! I am working on one using the Olson Bros. resin body for an older Commando.

Goose1957 Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Great looking Jeep. Love the wheels and tires. They are fun to modify. Jeff
espo Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Great looking Jeep. The paint is really smooth and I like the short top and lights on this. I can see a Fire Chief somewhere driving this as their Command Car.

No, I don't want to add things that would be difficult to remove. The lights are glued on with Elmers glue in case I want to remove them later.

I think there's a review of it here. Not sure which tires comes with it. The tires on this model didn't come with the Stevens International kit.
DrKerry Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Very awesome, now you're making me want to dig mine out and build it!!! Like the look!!!
Modlbldr Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Nice looking build Roger! I like the volunteer firefighter theme and that you didn't permanently add the lights. Where did you get the wheels. I'd like to do a similar thing with a built International Scout that I have. What brand and color of red did you use too? Later-

This is a pretty old build from back when I was still using enamel paint.

It's a nice little kit for the time it was produced. But, the older '67-'71s are more accurate. This '72 has a few issues. The biggest issue is that it has the wrong engine. The Dauntless V-6 wasn't available in the '72 and '73 Commandos. It was replaced with the AMC inline six (232 or 258) and the 304 V-8. The wheelbase should be three inches longer (104 vs the earlier 101). No chrome strip. One inaccuracy on all of them is the upside down tail lights (back up lights should be on top). Easy fix. One issue I've had with the two I've built is there is an interference issue between the floorpan and transfer case. I did a body lift on this one. The other got some liberal cutting to the floorpan and transfer case. I couldn't do a body lift as it was a '67 and wouldn't have looked right. If I ever build another '72, I'll make the corrections. larman Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 (edited) Nice job! I am thinking of building mine "stockish", like yours, maybe with a slight lift. I am probably going to swap in, dare I say, a small block Chevy. I know the engine in the kit is wrong, and I don't have any extra AMC engines and also don't want to buy another kit AMC kit to steal parts from. I do have plenty of SMBCs though and it seems to be a common swap. Edited February 10, 2020 by larman
