1972coronet Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 (edited) Plaid . Anyone who's over the age of 40 ( or of Scots-descent ,like me ) knows what that nifty pattern is . Plaid . The patterns wasn't exclusively a fashion statement from c.1969 - c.1979 , it was also a common site in vehicles from that era , especially 1973-1978 . Plaid . Anyone produce decals with that pattern ? If so , are different colours and / or pattern variations available ? Plaid . Here's a fine sample , direct from the 1973 Plymouth Satellite , et alia , brochure : Edited February 21, 2020 by 1972coronet
Nazz Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Is that pattern not called a tartan John? I did the seats in my Lotus by making my own decals from images on the internet.
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Scale Motorsports used to make clear and black plaid decals that would show whatever color you put underneath. I'm not certain if they still make them or not. I used some for a '63 Ford custom pickup. Steve
1972coronet Posted February 21, 2020 Author Posted February 21, 2020 @Nazz , You're likely correct . I've always referred to that as 'plaid' , but it's nice to know its proper nomenclature . Thanks ! @StevenGuthmiller , Thanks much ! That interior looks fantastic ! I'll check out Scale Motorsports .
Bainford Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 I recently needed a plaid pattern for the seats on a Lotus Esprit. I couldn't find anything to match, so I made my own using coloured pencils.
Can-Con Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 I just found an appropriate pic on the net and printed it out on decal paper.
Tom Geiger Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Those interiors look great now but I remember they didn’t wear well back in the day..
Mike999 Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 (edited) Hiroboy sells plaid seat decals for the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, in different colors. Edited February 22, 2020 by Mike999 goof
Can-Con Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Here's a site with hundreds of plaid samples. [and other patterns too like paisleys] Just copy, resize and print on decal paper. https://www.spoonflower.com/en/shop?on=fabric&q=plaid&availability=ForSale&sort=bestSelling&color=Red%2CAll Colors
Tom Geiger Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Joanne’s fabric store’s website has thousands of fabric choices that you can copy. I did that for my 1950 Ford Jitney bus seats.
