6883michaelw Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 (edited) Took a little break from the James Hylton Impala and picked up the 70 Chevelle I started a few months back. Bought this one on Ebay rather cheap. Original AMT built fairly well but door handles and marker lights had been removed and painted bright yellow. After disassembling and stripping decided to build as Friday Hassler's NASCAR. Had an extra unbuilt MPC chassis so I decided to use that. After looking and comparing it to the Salvino chassis I realized that most of the parts could be swapped around with only slight modifications. While I realize it's still not real accurate, it is much better looking. Also converted to front steer with parts from AMT Grand Prix kit and added metal springs front and rear. All this took only a couple of hours and looks pretty good. Can now put in a decent looking big block with clearance for oil pan and headers. Edited March 14, 2020 by 6883michaelw
afx Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 Great looking project I hope you do a build thread on it.
6883michaelw Posted March 29, 2020 Author Posted March 29, 2020 Been working on the Chevelle this week. Should finish up the cage tonight. A little sanding and cleanup, then primer tomorrow. Maybe ready for paint by tomorrow night on chassis. Hope to have this one done in a week or two then back to the Impala GN.
