Hawk312 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 This one was built from the Revell `85 Z/28 kit. The decals are from Ray`s kits, and are OUTSTANDING! Obviously, a lot had to be done to get an accurate Iroc. The wheels are the Pegasus Irocs, which are much to large for the MPC kit. However, the tires that came with the Irocs are way to small, so the tires are actually from the Monogram `55 pickup. The rear tires (wide ones) had to be cut into two pieces and mated with a half from the front tires (narrow ones) to make all 4 tires the same width. The interior is mostly scratchbuilt, with the seat patterns from a promo. The door panels had to be scratch built. The console and transmission were converted to automatic. The front bumper inlet, where the front license plate is location, was opened up and the lights, license plate holder, etc, had to be scratchbuilt. Valve covers are from the Impala kit. The exhaust is from the turbo GTA kit. Lots of other odds and ends... 2
tmb727 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Wow! Overall, a beautiful job, but that engine bay is amazing! Thought I was looking at a real car.
larman Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 That could easily be mistaken for a real car! Great work on the interior and engine! Tremendous build! When I was kid IROCs and Grand Nationals were the cars to have! I remember more than one of these in red!
Bills72sj Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Ditto on the engine bay. The detail is so precise it almost looks like you photoshopped a real one into the photo.
Maindrian Pace Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Super clean job, it's hard to imagine how that car could be any nicer. I've always liked that generation of Camaro far more than any of the generations that came later. It's my second favorite beyond the first generation.
charger74 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Very nice, and i agree with you, those decals from rays kits are great
Tommy124 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Wow, that’s a great build - the best one I‘ve seen of this gen Camaro! Excellent engine and all the details you created add to the great result! Given the extreme shine of the body color, I reckon you used 2k clear?
TooOld Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Gorgeous Iroc Z , great detailing ! Nicest one I've ever seen !

baycolony Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I love it! The time you spent on the on the engine compartment was well worth it. I liked these cars as a teenager but unfortunately the price was too great for me. Now you can get these cheaply and I don't want one....lol. Good job by you.
Ben Brown Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Beautiful build! I’ve been wanting to try one of these myself. You’ve inspired me! (Im off to eBay now... ? ) Ben
Hawk312 Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 Thanks everyone! The kit I started with is below:

Actually, I use Duplicolor clear, but lots of it. ? There is also a good bit of prep and finish work involved.
espo Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 As everyone else has pointed out you really nailed this one. I was working in a Chevrolet Dealership at that time and often drove Z-28's and IROC's for Demos. They never looked this good. For me the most impressive is the way the engine compartment is done. All of the hoses, and there were many, look to be routed correctly and this is a crowded area even on a 1:1 car. The paint finish is exceptional and all of the exterior trim looks dead on. You captured the interior perfectly.
Can-Con Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Very nice build, way beyond what I can do. and under the hood looks better than my real '85 F-body. The center bolt valve covers and heads didn't come along until '87 though.
peekay Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Beautifully done throughout, a truly believable replica.
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I've never been much of a fan of this vintage of Camaro, but I can't argue with the execution of this model! Very nice work, all around! Steve
