Most would "kill" to have this paint finish, but I understand your standards. At least you realize how and why it happened and you can avoid painting it that way next time.

I appreciate that, but I now know that I would continually kick myself from now until who knows when if I didn't correct it.

I'm sure that you know how it is.

When you know that there is a flaw on one of your projects, no matter how small, or whether or not anyone else would notice it, it's the first thing you yourself notice every time you look at the model.

I just decided that it wasn't worth that.

 

It's already coming along pretty well.

I checked the body this afternoon and there are already big blisters all over in the paint.

I'll leave it for another 24 hours and see how it looks.

The longer I leave it in the soup, the easier the paint will come off.

 

 Barring any major prep issues, with luck it will be ready for more color very soon, possibly by this weekend. :)

Painting has resumed.

 

I thought that I would try using a darker base of Duplicolor garnet red to see if it would darken the finish a bit.

Doesn't appear to have done much, but that's okay.

I was perfectly happy with the color anyway.

 

So, a couple of quick coats of dark red, followed by a couple of Sunfire Red is where I stand until my next order of Scale Finishes paint arrives.

A couple more light coats should do the trick.

With any luck I can avoid the paint issues that arose last time. :P

Thanks guys!

The Scale Finishes order arrived today.

Another bottle of Sunfire Red, and a little bottle of Pontiac blue enamel for the engine.

Should be back on track now. :)

Final color coats were applied today, as well as finishing the scripts.

At this point, no splotches or stripes are evident in the paint, but then again, I hadn't noticed any in the first attempt either. <_<

 

The true test will come with the completion of the first clear coat, which will hopefully take place this evening.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks fellas for all of your well wishes.

It appears as though they have worked because the final clear coat went on yesterday evening and I can find no issues with it.

At this point, I believe that the body is ready for polishing and foiling.

Thanks guys!

While the clear coats cure, it's time to move on to some other items.

 

I sprayed the chassis plate several days ago, so I finished it up today by masking and spraying the fuel tank with some Alclad aluminum.

I then masked the tank and sprayed the straps with Alclad dark aluminum.

Steve,

Excellent work, as always. I have enjoyed viewing this build. I want to get started on my 62 GP soon (as soon as I find where I put it) and I'll be looking back through this thread as a reference to how it should be done.

I didn't think the paint could get any better, and then you go and do this!! LoL 

It looks absolutely great! Shouldn't take much polishing with that built-in shine!
