I just recently used Duplicolor white primer under Rustoleum and they behaved themselves. Test it as always though.

I liked the way you described it “they behaved”!!  ???.   It’s the truth! You never know!!!

Rustoleum primer might work.

Rustoleum primer doesn’t react to the bare plastic?

I don't think so. I've used Krylon and Rustoleum both without problems. Try the Krylon, I know it works fine.

I've had a can of this for a while, tried it on the Land Rover floorpan yesterday, as I'd ran out my usual, didn't attack the plastic

I've been using Rustoleum American Accents primer. The can says that it bonds to plastic. I use it under Rustoleum sprays and Testors sprays without any apparent problems.

I have used all kinds of primers, including automotive lacquer, with good results. Some will, maybe, need to be sprayed with light coats. I used Dupont lacquer on my models, when I worked in the body shopa, worked fine in most cases, but did have to sand and redo a couple, so, best to test first.

I tend to stay away from Rustoleum primers and paints because they take so long to set up and are very soft.  Krylon makes a good gray primer filler and it works well under Duplicolor with no crazing.  Found the primer at Walmart.

in the UK Halfords White, Grey and Red Oxide primers are very good. Have used them on many models with various manufacturers top coats without any problems. Could possibly use their matt black as a primer also.
