  I will finish today my first Revell 30 coupe, a totally different look to yours but I grinned when I saw that I had put my seat locating blocks in exactly the same location of yours.  I created some issues for myself by using the full pleated interior with the channelled chassis.  The floor will fit but you have to pop it up into the body and then drop down into place.  The kit seat was then too high but the channelled seat from the 29 roadster was perfect but couldn't be installed til after the floor was glued in place - thus the need for blocks!

if I keep the hood top I will probably remove the existing beads and make new with half-round material to line up with the cowl. I will also probably add the material sections below the bead like 30/31 hoods have. 

I still haven’t fully decided on a dash and the shoebox piece isn’t a bad idea. That also got me to thinking about a narrowed ‘49 Merc. Thanks for the idea, I’ll have to play around with those!

Super cool and inspiring. Literally. I've been itching to build one of the two kits I have left of the now indecently expensive '30 Model A. Looking at your build, I may just purchase the body and go a similar route as you.

UPDATE!

Been a while since I updated this projected but I've been chipping away at getting everything painted behind the scenes.

The Pontiac 421 is coming together nicely. At this point it just needs the carbs, filters and fuel lines. The block and trans are Testors "Bronze" from their one-coat lacquer line. I had just enough leftover from my '32 5-Window to spray the engine and felt it's a good accent color for the rest of the car. The intake and valve covers are Tamiya "Mica Silver" with heavy gloss clear.

The wheels and tires are finished. The entire set is an AMT parts pack from a few years ago. Wheel finish is Tamiya "Silver Leaf" with their flat clear for an as-cast appearance.

The exhaust pipes are Tamiya "Mica Silver" with their flat clear to give it a metallic appearance with no sheen. I've done red "Cherry Bomb" glass packs on the last couple of models so this time I decided to do them up as "Blue Streak" glass packs. 

This is gonna be a 1960's era car but I didn't want to do another white/black two tone interior so I decided to take a chance with light gray (actually just Tamiya primer) and Tamiya "Blue" with a semi-gloss clear coat. The "carpet" is simply Duplicolor dark gray primer with a flat clear coat. The dashboard is a sneak-peek at the body color, Tamiya "French Blue, to show how the various colors will look together.

Chassis parts are all detail painted and just need their final gloss clear coat to seal everything in. 

Working on getting the body prepped for primer at this time. More to come soon!

I love your contrasting finishes on the suspension and wheels.  I have been a chrome junky all my life and struggle to strip the stuff  - I had a chrome-less childhood, building monochromatic Airfix, Lindberg, Pyro and Aurora models and once I got my first AMT, well lets just say that over fifty years later I am still reluctant to "sacrifice" it!  A psychiatrist would have a field day with that little gem of information! 

So everytime I see this sort of combination done so masterfully , I'm saying to myself, "C'mon, Al, strip it and hit with the flat metallics!"

I'm about to upload my 30 coupe - when you see it you will understand what I am saying!

Often when I’m working on a project I try and think of how chrome would fit in with the backstory of the car.  Say, I’m doing a bare bones hot rod built in some guy’s garage, shot with primer and mismatched panels and stuff - would that guy bother having his front axle chromed?  Probably not.  Similarly, if I’m trying to build a million-dollar-looking showcar, seems likely it would have more chrome on it.

Other times I think “I have this part with perfectly good chrome on - if this was a beautifully chromed brand-new 1:1 part, would be painting this thing a different color?”.  That’s when it’s sometimes a blessing to have a hard-to-hide/fix flaw in the playing so that you can say “pfftt, whatever, may as well strip it, looks like junk now anyway” ??‍♂️

I guess I say all that to day - nice build Dennis!  ??. I’ve been following and I’m looking forward to more!

UPDATE!

Still chipping away at paint on this thing. Finally got the body parts and frame in the Tamiya "French Blue" along with their gloss clear. Flame decals are trimmed down a bit from Revell's '32 5-Window and the Woodpeckers are from an 80's Monogram '32 Roadster. Naturally, I couldn't resist a mock up and I may or may not have made engine noises while I sat and admired it from different angles...

At this point I'll let everything sit for a few weeks so the paint can fully gas out prior to polish, wax and final assembly. In the meantime maybe I'll have to start a new project?

Yeah, me too!  I have used the Silver leaf before but not with the flat finish.  That would look awesome on a salt car.  I love the way it takes the 'prettiness" out of the bright blue paint and gives the coupe some attitude.  Looking forward to the final reveal!

I'm thinking, with all these cool coupes popping up lately, maybe we should start a Group 30 thread like the Group 29 thread?

It’s my new go-to for cast aluminum. I feel like it has the perfect textured look. With the Testors metalizers being discontinued I had to come up with an alternative.

I think a ‘30 Coupe thread would be appropriate. There’s enough of them out there to fill up a few pages for sure.

SMALL UPDATE:

A small update but one none the less. I masked the body and sprayed the roof insert flat black. Now seeing the paint finished it's amazing how much better Drag City's revised insert design is. Love it!

It'll still be a couple of weeks yet before it's time to polish and wax the body and other blue parts, which will then allow assembly to happen. In the meantime I need to order more hard line and fittings so that I can make the fuel lines to complete the engine.

UPDATE!

After a proper amount of drying time I was able to polish and wax the body and frame yesterday.

Today the weather was tolerable out in the garage so I spent the afternoon at the bench getting the chassis fully assembled, complete with grill, radiator and headlights. I also got the firewall, license plate and taillights installed to the body. Here's some pictures of where it's at as of now. I still need to make and install the engine fuel lines and then assemble the glass and interior into the body. One more day at the bench should get it finished so with any luck, next Sunday.

That is about the perfect '30 coupe...for me. I love every part of it.  

My dad collected and restored many an old car, his first love was the Model T, but we had A's also. While he never did anything with the chopped '30 coupe body. We did have a nice full fendered '30 pickup with a 32 grill, radiator,  and flathead 60. It all lined up perfectly.  It was a faded baby blue with red wheels. Someday I want to build a model of it.

Oh, and I grew up in Salem, OR. There was this guy down in Grant's Pass that put out some awesome 32 ford parts. ?

I think it was partly inspired by seeing the effect it had here, but I've recently got hold of some Tamiya TS flat and semi-gloss clear. I look forward to seeing what it will do, I should be using both in the next few days. Should open up some interesting colour/finish options.
