PatW Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Old kit dated 1979. Decals needed a couple of coats of enamel gloss clear to rescue. Good quality kit, good instructions, either float or wheeled aircraft.
Snake45 Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Very nice! I need to get a couple of those kits--that's a great airplane.
DonW Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 (edited) Snake - if you haven't read it and are partial to the Beaver (very carefully phrased!) then I highly recommend 'Think Like a Bird' by Alex Kimbell - ISBN 1904744052. Edited April 10, 2020 by DonW
PatW Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 Thanks guys. Yes a few commented when I bought this kit from ebay UK, mainly about the riveted exterior finish.
GLMFAA1 Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 It would be interesting scheme for the Canadian Whiskey 1/24th kit greg
PatW Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 Sorry to be a bit thick, but what is the 1/24th Canadian Whiskey kit Greg?
DonW Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 (edited) Search me, gov! Edited April 10, 2020 by DonW
Flynlo Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 (edited) They were 1/24 sap kits made by a company in Wisconsin, USA. They are very basic, no windows or interior. They also made a 6 foot wingspan version in foam that was hung in liquour stores. The decals promoted Canadian Club or Canadian Mist whiskey. Shown is the Airfix 1/72 kit (8" wingspan) with a the 1/24th version (24" winspan) with added interior details. Note that the rivets on the 1/72 model are larger Also, the raised ribs on the foreward portion of the Airfix floats should not be there. In reality, this is where the propeller warning stripes on the 1:1 would be located. Hobbycraft also makes a decent 1/48th scale beaver which is a decent build if I recall. PatW Posted April 11, 2020 Author Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) Oh yes a really nice looking job! I did a similar kit years ago in 1/48, a Nordyn Norseman........... Edited April 11, 2020 by PatW

Oh my, that's nice too! I have one of those kits but keep going back and forth whether I want to build it on floats or wheels. I might need to get a second one so I can do both. I fell in love with this whole type of airplane as a young child watching the Clutch Cargo cartoons. Found out many years later that Clutch's airplane was a Bellanca Airbus/Aircruiser, which there's never been a model of except for a vacformed 1/72. But a few years back I bought the DVD set and guess what, in at least one episode the airplane is a Norseman for some reason! I have the Hobbycraft 1/48 Beaver with the fuselage molded in clear but something not right about the glass framing in the front part. I need to see if that whole area can be filed/sanded/polished smooth and then mask off the correct glass shapes. I think I also have a HC 1/72 Beaver on floats, which I only own because Squadron falsely advertised it as 1/48 which it's not. No wonder it was so cheap! Clutch's airplane:
stavanzer Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I have one of the 1/24 Canadian Mist kits. I keep wanting to build it to display with a 1/24 Car kit, just to show how big Airplanes are compared to cars.
PatW Posted April 16, 2020 Author Posted April 16, 2020 It'll be good to see it anytime. Just stay safe in these uncertain times.
