I love the period accessories - I'd like to imagine it has leopard-print seat covers too!

Well...I had been on a pretty good roll, lately, but I have a feeling it's about to come to a halt! LoL

I thought I had an idea about this one, but I'm not finding anything close. Hahaha

WOW! It appears that I was way off!!

What did you go for Keith? When I saw those sun visors I thought they must be Australian, they built Vauxhalls there and had a couple of unique models. Came as quite a surprise to find that it is British and factory too, I don’t remember ever seeing one in the day ( but I was pretty young) I did have a 1959 PA Cresta Estate in the early 70’s. That was based on the car in the background of the pic. One of these, apparently Her Majesty The Queen had one too.

I've got a soft spot for these Crestas. Like a real American barge (not meant in an unkind way) but smaller. Big in UK terms though!

And what's not to like about this?:

Vauxhall never actually made Estate cars until much later, these were either converted by Martin Walters (Dormobile) or Grosvenor.

Geoff - with all due respect, what are you on about?

This car is a Vauxhall production car from the mid fifties. Can you clarify, please?

Geoff’s right... Vauxhall didn’t make an Velox “estate car” back in the day. They were converted in the aftermarket, and this one is a Dormobile version...

best,

M.

Having lived in New Zealand through the 1960s, I'm well aware of Vauxhalls, which were common there. It helped in tracking it down.

Thanks for the clarification - and kudos to Geoff!

Cheers both,

Vauxhall's first in-house estate car was the 1957 Victor, before that they were all sent off to be converted by Martin Walters or Grosvenor.

Thanks Geoff

How's Mell Square looking nowadays?

Cheers,

To be honest Don, I haven't actually been into Solihull town centre for a very long time, but Marks & Spenser have not long closed down their store there,Costa coffee has been downgraded into a smaller store, and we've finally got a Burger King, Beatties has been renamed House of Fraser.

I still have fond memories even though I left there in 1976 after my A levels.

We must have crossed swords, that's the year i arrived in Solihull from Spain, I was living with an Aunt just by the Land Rover factory.
