ROY FERGUSON Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 (edited) This is a Lindberg model of a Landing Ship Tank in 1/245 scale. My father in law was a Coast Guard LT. was assigned to the ship from the time of launch September 1944 till the end of 1945 when the ship arrived at Pearl Harbor. DonW Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I like that, Roy. I've just read 'The Cruel Sea' about the life of a corvette and a frigate mainly in the Atlantic and on the Russian convoys in WW2, I'm currently reading 'Lilliput Fleet' about the minesweepers and submarine trawlers during the same war. All those men and women who took part in the war at sea were heroes, so many hazards to face not least the sea itself. Yours is a great tribute.
Jim N Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Really nice work. Great tribute to your father in law.
robertw Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 A nice job on a kit that most modelers, whether car or military would ignore. It is good to see someone build every model ever issued no matter how old the kit.
stavanzer Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 DonW, try the book, "Away all Boats". It is a great look at WWII Beach Assaults from a USN Point of View. They even made a movie with the same name. It has an early appearance by a (very) young Clint Eastwood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Away_All_Boats I liked the book, better than the movie.
