I see that the color you used is the same as Chevrolet Honduras Maroon metallic.  Our family car when I was a kid was a '62 Park Avenue Town Sedan in that color combo.  I'll be using that color for an AMT '60 Buick Invicta convertible kit I just got. The color has apparently been discontinued in the Model Master lacquer spray cans, but I've ordered the color from MCW.  I'll also order a '61 Fleetwood resin kit from Decko Car Co.  Love these Cadillacs.

Hi David. Yes I remember your posts about your family car and also your '62 JoHan build of course. They have clearly helped me choose the color combo for this Coupe :). ( this '62 Caddy was painted with Medium Garnet Red Met ). For an unexplicable ( and silly ) reason I've never learn ( yet ) how to use an air brush. I am about to change that very soon.... So my Cadillacs are painted with sprays. Hobby shops are dead in my place now so it became complicated to have choices and availabilties. Not fan of tamiya's and never used ModelMaster's. I am using automotive sprays called Dupli-color. From primers to clears. Pros: nice metallic colors, easy to apply with no runs, fast drying process... Cons: moderate orange peel effect. (Well, no surprises here, all paints from sprays need fair amount of water-paper sanding process in order to have a mirror and smooth finish ). That's why I plan to learn air brush to improve paint quality results, and a better access to a larger variety of real accurate brand colors. I've discovered MCW finishes a few months ago and the "real car" colors are also pushing me to learn to use them. You won't be disappointed with D.Decko's kits, they are almost as good as real JoHan"s. Please show me that 61 once done :)

Thanks for your reply, Jean-Philippe.  I did order the Decko '61, MCW red paint's on order, and yes, I'll post photos once these are done.  You will like the MCW paints, easy with a good airbrush.

Jean-Phillipe, I see the MCW paint has shipped, and Saturday I stopped at a hobby shop I rarely go to.  Lo and behold, they had quite a few cans of Model Master Honduras Maroon metallic spray lacquer, which had been discontinued for quite a while.  I've sprayed the '60 Buick convertible with this paint, and it looks pretty good.  When it arrives, I'll paint the Decko '61 Fleetwood that same color to match a Cadillac ad from that year.

A beautiful model, and on of the best paints ever developed... I once owned a 1961 Caddy Convertible, in the Pompeo Red color...wish I never had to sell it, but it helped fund my move to Honolulu, Hawaii, way back in 1978. I've owned a variety of classic cars - '64 El Camino with a transplanted 409, '62 Thunderbird Convertible, '55 Mercury Montclair, '66 Jaguar XKE Convertible, etc... out of all of these great classics, I still have dreams at times, of driving my '61... at one point, back in '76, I pulled the engine and tranny, had the tranny rebuilt (it kept breaking; a very weak link), and completely rebuilt and blue-printed the engine; it would easily do 120mph-plus, all night long, when I would roar up I-5 in Northern California, in the early morning hours returning home To Redding, Ca, from Santa Rosa, Ca... once you got the big beast rolling, it was a Rocket Ship!

Bought it from a good friend for $250, replaced the rotting original top, and tonneau cover with a maroon-looking vinyl material, that came very close to matching the interior seat covers... I also eventually had the front end completely rebuilt... it was a gorgeous looking car! Would love to find a model kit I could build, but looks like the '61 is as rare as hens teeth...

Again, beautiful model... came across this forum Googling model kits... Aloha to all of you '61 Caddy Convert lovers... and, in this photo, look how nicely the tonneau cover matches the color of the interior and paint... sure do miss this Beautiful Beast!
