Tommy124 Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 (edited) Hi folks, this was long overdue... my first Impala build. I chose the last Impala vintage that I would call "classic". First I intended to do it in a more custom kind of style but then again I thought this kit containing the custom roof will look better in a more "serious" style. So I used the custom wheels and lowered the body, but changed nothing else. The body has been painted with Tamiya Light Gun Metal and the roof with semi-gloss black from a no-name spray can. Modlbldr Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Beautiful work.youve done on this one. I like the fact that you kept from doing a custom with it. It looks outstanding. Later-
'70 Grande Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Beautiful build! Everything about it looks so "right"! How did you get those Impala emblems on the front fenders and Chevrolet emblem on the deck lid to look so incredibly crisp... outstanding!
Spottedlaurel Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 That is really, really nice, I'd very happily own that at 1:1.
espo Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Great looking build. I like the stance and the wheels and tires. If I owned one it would look something like this.
doorsovdoon Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Beautiful. The badges look like separate parts! I've always liked the oval styled wheel arches on these cars.
Tommy124 Posted July 22, 2020 Author Posted July 22, 2020 Thanks a lot, guys! 22 hours ago, '70 Grande said: How did you get those Impala emblems on the front fenders and Chevrolet emblem on the deck lid to look so incredibly crisp... outstanding! 16 hours ago, doorsovdoon said: Beautiful. The badges look like separate parts! Thanks! I painted the badges using Molotow Liquid Chrome (from the refill bottle) and an fine 10/0 brush. I made sure that there would be just the tiniest amount of MLC on the brush, so maybe it's kind of a dry-painting method...
doorsovdoon Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I'll try that next time. I did something similar on my 70 Pontiac but with grey Humbrol.
Grumpa Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Beautiful work Thomas. Brings back memories. I had a 350 '70 back in '74 only it was a convertible and we put an oversized cam in it. Ran like a "you know what". "T-boned" a woman, who ran a stop sign, one winter morning in '76. Totaled her car. The only thing that happened to the Imapala was two broken pieces of plastic on the grill, and I had adjust the rubber bumpers for the hood to close. Wish I still had that car!
Rockford Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Looks very clean Tom, right stance, nice "day two" wheels someone would have added in the day, lovely paint. Takes a lot of effort to get them looking so clean. I remember visiting relatives in Canada and I saw an old guy climbing into one of these in a parking lot, it was huge! Like an aircraft carrier!
Tommy124 Posted July 23, 2020 Author Posted July 23, 2020 Thanks guys! I love to hear how this brings back memories to some of you. Unfortunately, in Germany cars like this can only be seen on special US car events.
