Monty Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Did a quick Google search for Scale Auto back issues and found a link to Kalmbach's Fakebook page which said the issues were 50% off. https://www.facebook.com/ScaleAutoMagazine/posts/50-off-scale-auto-back-issues/1278028428901437/ Prices seem to range from $6.99 - $8.99 an issue. Are these prices what they mean by 50% off or did I miss something?
RichCostello Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 If anyone needs any back issues, let me know, I've probably got them, and I'd gladly trade them for something. I've also got a ton of other old modeling mags that I'd also trade(Plastic Fanatic, Car Modeler, MCM, etc.).
misterNNL Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 I just saw announcement yesterday that Scale Auto is no longer going to be in business. Another one bites the dust! The end of an era. Hang unto your copys fellow builders cause aren't going to be any more.
Miatatom Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Scale Auto is being absorbed into the collective, better known as Fine Scale Modeler. I guess I'll drop it when my subscription expires. Besides, I get way more information on this forum than out of a magazine.
RSchnell Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Sounds like they took a notion from Squadron on how to run a sale!
Mark Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Back issues are often sold at higher than original cover price.

Mark Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Maybe...I've never checked as I have been a subscriber since about 1981.

There are discounts up to 15% for buying multiple back issues. Mike
randyc Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I"m wondering if I can sell off my old back issues or if I should just send to recycling.
randyc Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 If you're looking, there are some on ebay. Not terribly high priced. Might be hard to find specific issues. Maybe worth selling? IDK. I"m not ready to get rid of them just yet.

Like I said before, If you need any back issues, I've probably got them, most in new condition, and I'll trade for model car stuff.

Yeah, I ran into a guy, a few years ago, who had gotten 3 large bankers boxes full of old model magazines from a relative that had passed away, and he wasn't interested in them. so he sold them to me. I've got all of the Plastic Fanatics, and SAE from issue #1 from 1980 to 2011+, and lots of other interesting stuff. I'd rather help someone out, who might need some old issues to fill holes in their collections, or just want some really interesting pieces of model car history.
mikemodeler Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I know the Model Empire in Milwaukee (West Allis actually) sells back issues.
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I cringe when I read that people are tossing the magazines. The volume and weight make it hard to sell or even trade them. What about donating them to a veterans organization or some other worthy cause.
Miatatom Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I really don't understand why folks are throwing them out. Why did they keep them to begin with?
