doorsovdoon Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 While I'm waiting for the paint to dry on my current project I though I'd post some pics of my past builds as they were done before I joined the forum. Hope you like it, this is one of my favourites. I think this was my second build after the 76 Ford Torino, which was the first kit I'd built in over twenty years!
Bucky Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Fabulous Mercury! Great backdrop, too. Where did you come up with that?
doorsovdoon Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 Thanks, Guys. That's an old painting from the 1960's that hangs in my living room, I have a few different ones. I just sit it up on the kitchen counter and put the car on a food tray. Better than seeing my kettle or toaster in the background! haha,
1972coronet Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Wonderful example of the 427 Marauder under that bonnet ! Keep up the great work !

Rockford Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 That's uncanny, I have that kit built in the same colours, white with a red interior! Great work though. Very elegant body style I think.

I was going to paint it black originally but the store I get paint from was closed at the time due to Covid and I only had white here. One good thing to come from it I guess, haha!
espo Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I like the sleek lines of this build and the colors work well together. This would have been a real "sleeper" in it's day. All of the hi performance options that Ford offered on their full size models could be had on the Mercury also.

I went with the full whitewall tyre on this one and a metallic red interior. Love the dash on this car, I foiled it then gave it a wash of gunmetal to bring the detail out.
Monty Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Gotta love it when someone takes a simple 2-wire-axle car and just knocks it outta the park. This was a favorite kit of mine back in my early building days. I was crazy about the car's looks, the optional Hurst wheels AMT tossed in, and that big ol' FE engine. Mine came out OK but nothin' like this. Love that red interior and the way the white paint flowed out perfectly. Very well done.
