TransAmMike Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Hello folks, I've used chrome bare-metal foil for a long time but never used the Black Chrome. Bought a sheet and this stuff (at least this sheet) is terrible. When I rubbed it to smooth out the wrinkles the silver foil is visable in the black. Anyone else experience this. Pretty dissappointed in the product.
Nacho Z Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 I used it many years ago with the same results that you mentioned. I only used it once and never tried it again.
TransAmMike Posted July 25, 2020 Author Posted July 25, 2020 I agree with you John, won't be using again either.
Deuces ll Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Maybe a black "Sharpie" marker can fix the problem....???

Bucky Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 (edited) I'm glad I saw this thread. I have some of this stuff, but haven't used it. I'll be wary of it, now. Guess I'll do a trial run on some scrap. If it doesn't work out, maybe I can turn it into masking material. Edited July 25, 2020 by Bucky
Bills72sj Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Don't throw it out. Use it for masking. It works great as long as the adhesive is not gooey.
RSchnell Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 I bought some black foil not too long ago but haven't used it. Reckon I won't be now. Thanks for the heads up!
PappyD340 Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I haven't used the black but I recently bought some gold from BMF and I was not impressed, it would not stick just rolled up when I would try to burnish it down so I thought maybe that particular end of the sheet didn't get enough adhesive so I tried the other end same story, I figured that it may be old stock but I probably won't buy anymore. Now I've used the chrome and the aluminum for years never had a problem with those but thanks for the heads up about the black foil.
TransAmMike Posted July 26, 2020 Author Posted July 26, 2020 I forgot about it can be used as masking.
carrucha Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I have had the same bad experiences with black BMF. I used it a couple of times and the amount that is left is used for masking.
Jim N Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I've used it a number of times and never had a problem. I rub it down with a Q-Tip and nothing stronger, but to each his or her own.
George Bojaciuk Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I recently used it in a Corvette interior. I couldn’t detail the trim any better. Laid it on the door panel, burnished it carefully down. Then used thinner to wipe down the high spots. The high spots were chrome! Worked great for me!
TransAmMike Posted July 29, 2020 Author Posted July 29, 2020 Sounds like I need to try it again and be more careful burnishing it.
