Rocking Rodney Rat Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) I wanted to build an old school tough as nails basic hot rod. This reminds of Robert Williams painting. Tearing down the street with chickens scattering, dog pack snarling after, trash cans being bowled over while women and kids fleeing in terror!!!! 1930 Ford Coupe based on the old Monogram kit with a treated to a heavy chop. '32 grille shell from the Revell Rat Roaster kit. Frame from the AMT 1932 Phantom Vickie with reveals added and scratch built crossmembers. Engine is a back-dated SBC with three-2s, Chevrolet script valve covers and ram horn headers, T5 transmission (real hot rods have three pedals). Front suspension from the Revell '29 roadster, rear suspension is a QC from RMCM. Spartan interior with a bench seat from a Revell '32 roadster. Paint is Tamiya TS-14 "any color you want Henry Ford black". The Notso Special. larman Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Great job! The stance, the chop, everything about it is true hot rod!
espo Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 This looks just as you described it. All of the right finishes in all the right places.
Spex84 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) Wow, fantastic. I love the look, and the execution. Great wheel-tire choice, and the de-chromed brightwork complements the black paintwork nicely. I like the Monogram '30 coupe body so much more than the new Revell coupe (sorry Revell *shrug*).... but the combination of both Monogram and Revell parts (and some AMT too!) creates just the right flavor. Well done! *edit* Oh, and killer job on the frame reveals and beltline molding. I actually forgot for a moment that the AMT Phantom Vicky frame doesn't have a reveal. Edited August 16, 2020 by Spex84
Claude Thibodeau Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Hi! Great results, very in tune with your mission statement... Bravo! I can remember when the 1/1 model As were a dime a dozen, because, everybody was looking for a 32. The beauties we left behind in search of the holy grail... Regrets, you say? CT
doorsovdoon Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Like a diesel train, that thing ain't stopping for nothing! Looks amazing, I like this a lot?
Tom Geiger Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Very cool. I too am a fan of the Monogram Model As and I I’ve got five on my shelf and more coming!
Draggon Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 I don't know about that name, it looks pretty special to me lol. I dig it RRR, well done, ticks all the traditional boxes. Beautiful chop and it shows your usual meticulous workmanship!
alan barton Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 That works for me! The heavy chop suits the persona of this kit beautifully whereas it might not suit a more sedate ride. Nice to see an SBC for a change - everyone seems to have gone flathead or hemi mad lately! Cheers Alan
RAMBENNA Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 way cool love the black , it's sinister looking well done
Dennis Lacy Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 The look of this car is just plain wicked thanks to the aggressive chop and being blacked-out. And it has my favorite hot rod engine in it! My favorite A Coupe from your work bench so far. Someone needs to build a full scale version!
Plowboy Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 I love everything about this model!! The colors, chop, stance, wheels and tires etc. etc. Well, except for the lie on the hood. It should be "Isso Special". Killer hot rod!!
gman Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Absolutely love it- a purposeful period "A" with all of the right touches. I agree with the other posters...very special.
Grumpa Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 OH MY!...this is too nice! My kind of "Rod"! Beautifully done!
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Yes. One of the pictures of "hot rod" in the dictionary...
AmericanMuscleFan Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Very beautiful and clean build! The chop is drastic but gives a very hot rod look and the all black finish is perfect for that car. Looking at the construction pics, I was reassured to see that I am not alone with a busy workbench! Well done sir!!!
