And I don't know what kind of black paint they sold years ago but it does not want to come off. LOL Lol. Sorry to hear that. I have another of these on the way. I think the main parts are untouched. I'll have to figure out what way I want to build it. Later-
espo Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 I have been checking in from time to time and like how this is build is going. Seeing how this is going I'm starting to think about trying to rebuild one of my old builds of this model in the hardtop version. Remarkable how sharp the body trim details are after all these years.

Thanks! I got a second kit of this because I liked the look of it so much. The body in the second kit is in perfect shape. I got the decals put in place today. Did it in two stripes, the narrow one first and then the wider one. Got a coat of clear over it. I'll give it a few days then wetsand. I was debating whether to put a stripe on the trunk but I think I'll pass. Hate to screw up a good thing. I'll start the interior while waiting. Later-

Later- I wonder if the "Balance" of the models appearance would look better with the rear stripe to match ? Maybe just try a thin bit of tape that isn't permanent on the rear just to see.

Painted Black Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I remember back in the mid 60's guys were doing this type of stripe, and only doing the front.. Build is looking good.
ewetwo Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Tom. Is that s decal stripe or vinyl pin stripping for cars.
Modlbldr Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 1 hour ago, ewetwo said: Tom. Is that s decal stripe or vinyl pin stripping for cars. It is a decal from an Amtrack railcar decal sheet I've had for years. I took the wider stripe on the sheet and cut it lengthwise at 1/4 inch wide for the wide stripe. That left the balance as the width for the narrow stripe. Thanks for the positive comments guys. Later-
RichCostello Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 The Tempest looks great, but I think that if you have a stripe on the front, you gotta have one on the back too. Of course, that's just my opinion, and it's your model.
Sam I Am Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Looks real good with the trunk stripes added. ?
Modlbldr Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 So, I added the trunk stripes and think that it was the right choice. Later-

Modlbldr Posted September 9, 2020 Author Posted September 9, 2020 I am SOOO excited! I tried my airbrush to spray Tamiya acrylic flat red on the interior parts. I had read and watched quote a bit of stuff on YouTube about thinning and spraying Tamiya acrylics. Most everything I saw said how finicky it was and recommended their thinner. I thinned my paint about 60/40 with washer fluid and two drops of glycerin and sprayed it at 24 psi. Turned out fine to me. I'll brighten it up with a bit of Future and add some red/black mix of embossing powder for the carpet areas. Later-
espo Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 The interior looks nice. I wouldn't get to carried away with making the interior to shinny, remember it's Vinyl with maybe a little Armoral on it. Nice texture on the Carpet.
Sam I Am Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 Looks great Tom. I might have to send you all my stuff that needs airbrushed. ?
Modlbldr Posted September 9, 2020 Author Posted September 9, 2020 Thanks guys. 1 hour ago, espo said: The interior looks nice. David, I painted an extra part (the cheesy toneau cover) to use as an experiment piece. I'm wondering about adding something as a flattener to the Future to tone it down a bit. Gotthe interior set in place. Looks like it will come along nicely with some detail touch ups. Later-

There are many other brands that can be used to get the same effect, but I would suggest you try and stay with paints designed primarily for our plastic models.

ksnow Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 That interior looks fantastic. Really pops against the white body. And the blue stripe compliments everything.
Modlbldr Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 I could not find any Tamiya acrylic semi gloss clear so I picked up a can of this. It is Satin Varnish for figure painting. It seems to be a decent alternative. I think that once I get the carpeting ina and the chrome trim done it will look fine. Later-
doorsovdoon Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 It's come a long way from the gluebomb you started with. It could pass for a fresh kit that's only been taken out of the box today.
Modlbldr Posted September 11, 2020 Author Posted September 11, 2020 This morning's progress. I am missing the center console in this kit but I have one at home in the second kit that I bought. I'll get it in there after this weekend. The next step is a bit of detail painting and some BMF on the body. Later-
