Steve,

Excellent build, and there’s no better reason or motivation than to create something special for your daughter. Good on you!

It reminds me . . . And please forgive me for semi-highjacking your thread . . . of a friend of mine; a friend for 24 years now.  I first ‘encountered’ him before we actually met when we were both working for the same employer. Many of us had full-use company cars, and we were allowed to select our own colors of our cars. The majority of company cars were the common whites/silvers/grays/beiges/medium blues and a handful of blacks (including mine). Out of a few dozen, however, there was one that stood out — shockingly so. One guy’s new company car showed up in an iridescent pinkish pearl color! Very close to the color of this Prius model.

I didn’t know him at that time, but I had to wonder what motivated him to pick such an . . . unusual  . . color. I was surprised (as I got to know him) that he a very masculine man with a wife and children. We became good enough friends that I finally had the nerve (and comfort level) enough to ask him why on earth he selected . . . such a color.

He explained that he had three children, one of whom was an adolescent daughter who was really struggling with school. He was soon to be due for a new company car, so he motivated her by offering to let her choose the color of his next car if she would get her grades up. It worked. And just before it was time to order his new car, Ford added that iridescent pinkish color to their palette. Sure enough, that’s what daughter dearest picked!

He made good on his promise and for the next two years he drove around in THAT color!  I really admired him for making good on his promise to her, even though he had to endure the hoots and derision of colleagues for it. I don’t think I could have been that big a man.

But, when his pink Taurus reached the end of its service cycle he replaced it with a black one and never again made such a “bold” promise to his children!  LOL.

Your Prius gift reminded me of that great story. And, as I said, we’ve been good friends for 24 years.

Hi Danno, that is a great story, thanks for sharing. Some of the stories that come about on these threads is just awesome. Interesting how we all have so many memories around cars, be it scale or full size. Thanks for looking!

Cheers, Steve
