glockexe Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Looking around, i found a testors spray kit # 9215 is this a kit i should consider for a beginner, in the picture it shows a little glass bottle that connects to the spray can, looks like a low end air brush , any body with experience with this kit. If this is not a good start suggestions for start up spray painting, thanks
JollySipper Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 I would just maybe get some spray cans, man... I've tried that set-up and couldn't get good results with it... Aerosol cans work just fine for spraying parts.
Fat Brian Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 You can get good results from cans with practice. Honestly, the painting is only half the battle of a good paint job. The rest is surface prep before painting and polishing afterward.
slusher Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Tamiya primer sold at Hobby Lobby is great but if you don’t have a hobby shop you might have to order their paint but worth it.
glockexe Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 ok, next question, which paint to buy, home depot paint? i looked at hobby town they had smaller cans, but over $7 a can what gives the best quality with best results, just getting started don’t think i need the best paint, or do i, what do you guys recommend?
Bills72sj Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Testors Extreme Lacquer for great color and shine without polishing. Hardware store paints are a better bargain (price per ounce) but some do not play nice with plastic. Duplicolor from any auto parts store works pretty well and you get enough for at least 2 models. Sometimes colors are limited. Their primer is recommended as well.
Straightliner59 Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I have always had good results using Krylon in spray cans. It goes on smoothly, dries quickly and evenly. I use their primer, beneath it. It's also inexpensive.
R. Thorne Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 The 9215 testors kit is very convenient for painting small items (engines, chassis, etc.). I use it with the modelmasters acryl paint ( no thinning, mixing, etc) and cleans up with water. For painting bodies, Tamiya spray cans (ts series) are the best unless you have an airbrush.
El Roberto Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Badger 250 series are low priced beginners brushes. They use canned propellant. Not too bad, you cant use em for detail work or spraying a body if you're looking for show quality finish. I used one for years until I graduated to a compressor and better quality brush.
