fazmodeller Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 ZZ Top is an American Rock Band formed in 1969 who have sold over 50 million albums. One of their founding members, Billy Gibbons, who has always been a car collector and Hot Rod enthusiast commissioned the customised chopped Ford 1933 Coupe which featured on the cover of their 10 million copies sold 1983 released album "Eliminator". The car featured in 3 music videos featuring hit singles ( Give Me All Your Lovin' ,Sharp Dressed Man and Legs) from the album. Monogram released this kit in 1985 and re-released it 3 more times with little change. Although it suffers from Americas kit manufacturers simplicity of detail the shape and fit work and overall it is a straightforward build. Monogram seem to have captured the classic curves of 1930s car design well. To improve realism a photoetch grille and turned aluminium exhaust trumpets and gas cap have been added. Paints used are Tamiya and Alclad lacquers. Steve Hansford Melbourne, Australia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fazmodeller
Claude Thibodeau Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Hi Steve! This kit is notoriously finnicky to line-up and assemble flawlessly. You certainly pass the test. Bravo! CT
randyc Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Nice. Never bui;lt this one - I do have a variant somewhere that I'll probably never finish either. lol
Geno Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Man that looks great Steve, I have one to build to park alongside my DM "California Kid" model.
HotRodaSaurus Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 I have 'Legs' going through my head now. A really nice finish to this, thanks for showing.
espo Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Beautiful looking build, you really did this one well. I happen to be a ZZ Top fan and have a few CD's that I take on any long drives. "You know they got some crazy women down there"
Phildaupho Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Nice to see this very sharp model of such an historically important car which I feel contributed to the revival of hot rodding
Earl Marischal Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 That's a Sharp Dressed Car you have there. steve
Dominik Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 looong time ago i saw one built - well done! just the Music from ZZ Top in mind
Modlbldr Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 That turned out great. Especially with the addition of the grille and exhaust tips. Nice, flawless work. Later-
NOBLNG Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 That is a beautiful car, and you certainly did it justice with your build.?
David G. Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 That is the best assembled version of this kit that I've seen! Top notch all the way around. David G.
doorsovdoon Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Looks amazing, very nicely done. I remember my dad had the Eliminator album when I was a kid and always remember the front cover with this car on it. The stereo was a 'do not touch' item in my house so I used to play that record all the time when he was out!
tkzwolf Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Looks great. I've always been a ZZ Top fan. You did a great job on this. Someday I will build the one in my stash and I hope it turns out this good.
Koellefornia Kid Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 I love this car! Very nice build, Steve! I wish I would have had a PE grille when I built mine years ago...
