When I posted a few pictures to the diecast section I came across pix of this one. A pretty elementary modification, but took forever as usual. So here goes...

A Jada diecast Chevy Suburban as I received it many years ago.  As I looked at it I kept seeing a police vehicle..

So I did what any modeler would do.. I took it apart!  I did have plans to detail out the rather simple interior with new seats and stuff, but as I sat forever, I decided simple would be better.

The one thing that did bother me was the flat hood. The 57 truck had those wind splitter hood bumps like the passenger cars. I thought about simply swapping in the hood from the AMT 57 Pickup kit but the hoods were radically different. So I went about creating those ribs.

If they look familiar, yes I whittled down a pair of tooth picks!

And in the end, good enuf for a shelf diecast!  I did strip and paint the hood, doors and rear gate. I decided the original black finish was again, good enuf!

And this was how it sat for years. I did get rid of the whitewalls and full wheel covers. Decals from the Johan 59 Rambler wagon kit.

And here we are today. As this one sat in the case, every time I looked at it all I saw was the missing red light and hood ornament. So I spent a little time completing those details.

Finished!  A quick photo session and she’s back in the display case.

Yes, nice conversion, Tom.

But, that's one angry looking dog!  Are you sure them good old boys in Branch County are feeding him enough?

He’s a rescue dog! I saved him from a vending machine!  ?

The Branch County and Covington decals on the Ranchero came from the Johan 59 Rambler wagon kit. Okey really outdid himself on the decals, two full sheets!

I knew Okey lived in Covington, KY so I checked to see if it was in Branch County. There isn’t a Branch County in the state but one in Michigan. I’ll have to add a license plate.

Hi Tom!

Nice SUV.

I like the idea for the hood blisters. I guess this could also be done with plastic tooth pics, that would glue easily to a typical styrene hood. I will certainly borrow your idea on a future build. Thanks!

Nice job! What did you use for glue and filler on the toothpick mods?

That’s nothing more than wood round toothpicks, whittled and sanded to shape. Super glued to bare metal, then puttied in with Squadron Green. Then primed with Duplicolor primer, followed with their gloss white.
