Tiger89 Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 There seems to have been a craze lately over the old Jo-han Mavericks and Comets, so this is a stock build I came up with. I used a Pro-stock Comet kit that was still sealed from the '70s, AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 chassis slightly shortened, wheels, mirrors, hood scoop and engine from AMT's '69 Cougar Eliminator, seats from an AMT Torino. Grabber Lime paint was supplied by MCW, and decals by Keith Marks. I'll be keeping the 429 engine from the Comet kit for something else.
shoopdog Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Very nice! I sure would like to see a Comet or Maverick kit released.
Scott8950 Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Very nice... You rarely see these built stock and your color choice was perfect.
Classicgas Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Well done. Did something similar with a die-cast.
Spottedlaurel Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Looks great. If you'd have just shown the photos without describing the various parts that went into it I'd have assumed it was a nicely done, out of the box build, but you've incorporated everything very cleanly.
Dave Darby Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Until I had to ebay off my Cougars and Comet, I had the same plan. Looks great!
espo Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Great looking little Comet. Perfect color for the time and all the trim looks real cleanly done as well.
Lunajammer Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Really looks the part. I could've totally believed this was a Comet sport package and offered as an AMT kit.
Nazz Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 You did a nice job on this Comet. Well done David. Jerry

Classicgas Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Lol. Thanks. Apologies to the op. Didn't mean to hijack your thread.
drodg Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 I always wanted to do a Comet GT. Bought a bench seat from I think Missing Link and bought stripes from Keith Marks but that is as far as I got. Love the GT you did.
Maindrian Pace Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Beautiful job on a car seldom, or perhaps never seen in the hobby, which is a good thing.
Geno Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Man, that is a sweet build David, I've got an original promo that'll become a Maverick Grabber.
