doorsovdoon Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 (edited) I don't know if there is already a "top ten kit" thread, I did look but nothing popped up. Anyway, what are your top ten kits? It can be anything from cars, boats, trucks, planes, trains, basically anything in scale kit form, and feel free to post pictures:) Lists are subject to change as we build kits that are yet to come out or ones we haven't done yet, but I'll start with what are in mine at the moment. #1. AMT 1962 Buick Electra #2. AMT 1957 Chevy Bel Air (Old Solid Axle) #3. AMT 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix (Grand Slam) #4. MPC 1979 Chevy Nova (Squad Rod) #5. AMT 1971 Ford Thunderbird #6. MPC 1970 Pontiac Bonneville #7. AMT 1964 Chevy Impala (Old Solid Axle) #8. Lindberg 1961 Chevy Impala #9. Revell 1977 Chevy Monte Carlo (Snap-tite) #10. Revell 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 That's my top ten, I'm tempted to replace my #5 with the 1966 Mercury Park Lane, but I liked how my '71 Thunderbird turned out so much it got my vote over the Park Lane. StevenGuthmiller Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Well, this is a pretty subjective question. But from your answers, I'm guessing that you are referring to just our favorite kits overall, and not necessarily what we might think of as "the best" kits. In my case, the list would include what I consider my "holy grail" kits. The ones that that I am most excited to build. almost all I have already built, and one I have left to build, but the list would look something like this. #1. Johan 1966 Chrysler 300 (Done) #2. Johan 1961 Plymouth Fury (Done) #3. AMT 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 XL (Done) #4. Johan 1965 Plymouth Fury III (Done) #5. MPC 1967 Pontiac Bonneville (Done) #6. Johan 1961 Chrysler New Yorker (Done) #7. Johan 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix (Done) #8. Johan 1960 Oldsmobile 98 (Done) #9. MPC 1966 Dodge Monaco (Still needs to be built) #10. AMT 1961 Buick Invicta (Done) Steve

doorsovdoon Posted November 2, 2020 Author Posted November 2, 2020 Yes, favourite builds because everyone will have a completely different experience to any given build. I enjoy building the '62 Buick Electra, whereas that kit might not have been so rewarding to someone else.
doorsovdoon Posted November 2, 2020 Author Posted November 2, 2020 Cool, lots of Tamiya and Jo-Han so far.

BlackSheep214 Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 I agree with one poster. It’s basically subjective. It’s hard to choose and pick a Top 10 list in my book. Every kit has their quirks - good or bad. There’s no way for me to pick a Top 10 list since I’ve done too many to count since I was around 6, 7, or 8 years old. To give you a ballpark idea of how many kits I’ve done throughout my life since the 70s... my guesstimate is around 300 - 400 kits. Almost 99% of them are long gone from my youth years. Right now, I’m trying to acquire kits I really love to have a second shot at building again - even those I’ve never done before.

iamsuperdan Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 I don't know that I could make a top 10. I know there would be a lot of Tamiya Porsche kits on it. And some Fujimi Porsche kits. But my fav kit is the AMT Chevrolet C1500 454SS. Built a few, have many more to build.

TransAmMike Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Well, this is an interesting topic. Not being specific for me though are '55 and '57 Chevy kits, Porsche kits (I got my first one for my Birthday last week), '66 SS Chevelle (have one waiting to be built like my 1st new car purchase), pretty much any GM Muscle (including Drag cars).

Steve Yep, if it's a kit you've built more than once it's definitely going to be in your top builds! I limited it to ten as the lists would be massive, nearly all kits are enjoyable:) I've built maybe 26 kits in the last few month and all of them have been great fun, but some more than others. Even if you've built 300 kits, just pick ten that stood out for you the most. Edited November 3, 2020 by doorsovdoon

BeakDoc Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) So, for me the criteria for what qualifies a kit as a “favorite” varies greatly from kit to kit. It can be subject matter, personal grail-worthiness, usefulness as a parts donor, quality, accuracy, extras or any combination of those factors. I’ll spare you the synopsis of each individual kit. 1. Lindberg ‘67 Olds 442 W-30 2. AMT ‘65 Grand Prix (Grandslam) 3. AMT ‘64 Merc Marauder 4. Fujimi Porsche 356B Roadster 5. Revell Foose Ford p/u 5 1/2 Any of the Lindberg Dodge A100 kits 6.
