Gramps46 Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Thanks guys for your comments on my veteran builds and wish you all well on your builds. The Lindberg is based upon CSX 2287 of the original Pete Brock design and has a lower windscreen. The Gunze coupe was based upon CSX2299 made in Italy and had a higher windscreen/roof and was called the Gurney car. The other 3 coupes made in Italy were some where in between in roof height. I do have the HRM resin kit based upon CSX 2299 but I think when I build another Daytona it will be a K&B body on an AMT chassis. The #14 Lindberg I showed is really Viking Blue, my phone was playing tricks on me.
Randy D Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Hi Josh, I too beleive that a decent plastic full detail kit of these cars would be an instant sucess!!!! I was going to post a link to Fabrizio's wonderfull build of three of the Gunze Coupes and transporter but all the pics are gone. Looking at the MCM #207 cover posted above in this section it made the cover:) Steve, Great build ! Gary, Amazing collection of fine builds you have there, well done Sir ! I have traded away my Scale Motersport and Gunze kits, nothing wrong with them, but I wanted full detail kits. I will post some pics of the MFH kit and the HRM kit and you can see pics of the HRM kit at my store site. HRM kit body The 2 kit bodies, HRM in white.... MFH kit, mostly white metal and photoetch.... Good reference books... The Mills book has a complete listing of models in the back ::) I was going to suggest that you come down I-25 and we will go to the Shelby Museum in Boulder and see #2299 but I don't know that it is still there. Here are some rather poor photos I took when it was there... I do have some HRM kits coming in next week:) Randy
vamach1 Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Glad to hear the HRM kits keep coming in. Brad retired from his “office” job many years ago but has been making beautiful resin kits for at least 20 years.
vamach1 Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 This is a nice list of models of the Daytona Coupe from the book by Rinsey Mills about CSX3200 that was published this year and is available at your typical online places. The book is 336 pages and a must have for Daytona Coupe fans.
Venom Posted November 17, 2020 Author Posted November 17, 2020 (edited) Well, I just made a $100 offer on a Gunze Daytona kit on eBay and got turned down? After $50 shipping, I can’t see myself offering any more than that... Guess it’ll be there for the big dogs Edited November 17, 2020 by Venom
cobraman Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 For those who may have wondered about the kit on eBay a week or so ago . I received it yesterday . Inspection shows it to be complete and not started . As noted the front clip had been cut away . If I didn’t know the body was on piece I would not know it had been cut . I swear it looks like it came as a separate piece .

So now you have to decide if you are going to add an engine and everything under the hood of just glue the body back into one piece since the kit was not made to have the hood displayed open (like the full detail HRM kit). Decisions decisions. ?
cobraman Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Recommend a engine to me please and where to find ? Out of a kit ? Resin ? I may want to try that but it is pretty far down on my list to get to. Firewall ect ?
Venom Posted November 20, 2020 Author Posted November 20, 2020 (edited) Ok that’s it... I’m gonna make my own mold! I mean, finally a way to get rich! Edited November 20, 2020 by Venom

I scratch build the headers and source my Webber carbs and manifold from HRM. Randy at Model Builders Warehouse offers some very nice 3D printed Webers as another option. Also Randy caries HRM's FIA engine which would give you everything you need. Edited November 28, 2020 by afx
Ralph Henderson Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 So it seems we have another player. Paramount. (red car in pics) near as I can tell, late 60's issue, maybe early 70's. Comparing to the Gunze and the AMT, and to dimensions on wiki, and other places here on the board, this is dead on for 1/25, maybe a mm short in wheelbase. 3 mm narrower at the front door jamb than the Gunze, and 3 mm narrower at the widest point than the Gunze I don't know if it's the same casting as the Lindberg, it seems smaller compared to the other bodies here, and the pics of the Lindberg I have seen seem to show the Lindberg a bit larger than the Gunze. This model has glass and headlight buckets, but it had to miss something.. (that's just my luck) so it has no headlight covers. I'll dig in my stash, it looks like the custom styline headlight covers from the 57 t bird might fit, or at least be close.. This body will probably be the starting point for an early 1/25 CSX 2287, (pre spoiler). Lotsa scratchbuilding ahead... may even find somebody to cast it. Only problem is, I've only seen one, and this one wasn't cheap, although I paid far less that the seller on eBay was initially asking, I am reluctant to let it go to be cast.. we'll see..
vamach1 Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 (edited) It’s funny that Monogram did a reissued 1/32 Cobra slot car that’s very nice but making a more modern 1/24 or 1/25 kit or slot car just seems to be ignored for whatever reason and thus it’s either making one from a 55 year old slot car or a very expensive resin kit with or without an engine. With the Paramount kit being made in Japan it was probably copied off of something else at the time. In any case it will need a lot of “parts” to make a nice looking shelf kit. I’ve run into the same dilemma with the Lindberg kit - next to the HRM resin kit I guess you can at least probably justify the cost of the latter. For reference here’s the LIndberg kit with a lot of extra parts I was test fitting to see how I could improve upon tit without breaking the bank more. Gary McNutt did a fantastic job on the Lindberg kit given what he had to work with back in the day so it’s doable. Edited November 30, 2020 by vamach1
Ralph Henderson Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Looking at the other thread, this body is quite a bit smaller than the Lindberg. Even though in my photo it looks longer than the gunze, they are pretty much exactly the same length. One thing for sure, it is NOT the Lindberg body. A quick trial fit shows me that it'll fit the AMT chassis with a few mods. Mostly just sheet metal and under hood stuff. I got lotsa styrene, printers plate, etc. After I get the BattleBird done, this will get moved quite a ways up in the line...

Venom Posted January 4, 2021 Author Posted January 4, 2021 Took a screenshot of this little bit of info I found from a 2015 topic... Helps explain a little bit maybe why there are no big production styrene kits of the Daytona Coupe and some of the older Cobras...

cobraman Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 I'm still trying to get up the motivation to build the 1/12 Mustang and GT 40.
