MPC Firebird annual kits ('67-1/2, '68, '69), all reissues of the '69 including the one (1982) issue of the convertible, and one early Eighties issue MPC '69 Camaro (the one molded in black).  Most issues of the MPC Daytona Transporter Truck have one also (except the one sold with the Ramchargers dragster).

What kit(s) featured the Pontiac OHC 6?

Another source would be the AMT kit # 6123 from around 1995. The kit may or may not have been based on the MPC kits. This has an Orange or Red Firebird 400 on the box but lists the 6 cyl. engine on the box information side panel. The body is a nice casting and the engine detail on both engines looks good. The chassis is basic by todays standards but the norm of the time it was issued. The kit includes both hoods and would make a good bases to build either way. The decals give you the blue stripe decals if you wanted to build a Trans Am Firebird.

Thank you for the pictures, This looks like one of the Hiperformance versions based on the exhaust and Quadrajet Carb.  I always thought it was a shame the way this engine got overlooked at the time. Just think if you were looking at a new '67 Firebird or Tempest which would you buy ? This or a 400 cu.in. V-8 ? History tells us what most buyers did. A few did get to have a unique experience with this and a 4 - speed in a light bodied car.

That is why when I built the Revell 68 Firebird, I chose this engine and did it as a Sprint.

I always liked these little engines.

My first "professional" engine swap was a 215-hp OHC 6 and a Powerglide stuffed into a Jag MkVII that had a bad rod knock.

With about 50 additional horsepower and considerably less maintenance required, it made a nice, drivable car at a time when such a mod wasn't looked upon as sacrilege.

And it was still an inline six with one less cam.?
