GLMFAA1 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 (edited) Has anyone ever done a model of the Dual trailered GMC Astro that is in the beginning of the movie? Just watched the beginning clip of the movie and think that would be a neat model set. Now there is a kit to go with the Nova. greg Edited December 24, 2020 by GLMFAA1 add picture
Dutzie Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 I think the build would be fairly straightforward. The decals from the older GMC General orChevy Bison can be used along with a modified frame. It would be a neat project.

I'm not sure the Doubles were legal for other than Toll Roads in Mi. then . They were Illegal on non-turnpike roads in Ohio then . Yup . Hollywood and "overpaid and ignorant technical directors" . Go for it Greg Thanx
Casey Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 There is (or was) a photoetched set which included the larger, later style GMC Astro/Chevy Titan grille as pictured, so armed with the recent GMC Astro 95 reissue and Double Header!! pup trailers, you've got most of the work done.
vincen47 Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 (edited) That’s a great scene, not to mention one done with very little special effects, just good old film. With the chase set to the 80’s music of the time, and in the Motor City - definitely worth watching. I’ve considered building thar rig as a future project myself, especially since CTM came out with the grille. I did a little research a while back and I remember there’s a swamp box-looking thing out the rear of the cab, used to house a camera, maybe even the whole camera man, iirc. Also, for car-ramming purposes, there is a big I-beam behind the bumper, making the factory bumper stick out. But yes, it would be a fairly easy project with mostly off-the-shelf components. I’d love to see someone jump on a project like this. Edited December 26, 2020 by vincen47
Force Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 It looks like shape of the front bumper is close to the one in the GMC General/Chevy Bison, not exactly the same but close
Tom Geiger Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 How ‘bout the Duster? I wonder how many they destroyed to get that 30 second clip!
