For reference, my factory stock (except for the color) 1977 Corvette. This was the last year for the vertical back window, the year engine color changed from orange to blue, and the year the Vette lost it Stingray badge. She’s not going to win any car shows or races (sadly my Honda Accord has more horse power) but she’s mine and I love her.

I looked at a 1977 Coupe a few years ago. Light blue with the Oyster interior, 4-speed. About 85,000 miles on it. Was for sale by the original owner, a woman. Was never driven in winter so the frame was clean but it needed everything: paint, complete interior, weatherstrips, tires, the engine was leaking oil everywhere. Some of the wiring was cobbled together under the hood. She never maintained it beyond the bare minimum. It needed $8-10K to make it presentable and reliable. She had an offer of $5,000 and told me that i could have it for $5,001. I could not do it.

This is what it looked like when I picked it up about 5 years ago for 3K. It ran (not well), didn't stop, and the interior was in pieces. Not going to admit how much I've spent on it since then. It's about the love for my first Corvette and not the money spent or value (or at least that's what I keep telling myself).  ?

The horsepower of that Vette doesn't matter because it still looks much better than most new cars these days in my opinion.

Did you do the work on the car yoursef Jim?

Back around1981 or so I was driving  around looking at used Corvettes for sale. Driving past a new car dealership I spotted a Corvette in the back of the used car lot. I stopped to look at the '79 L82 painted in a gawd awful metallic orange color,  knowing it wasn't a factory color. As the story went according to the salesman, the original owner didn't like the black color so had it painted International Truck Orange. He also for some reason, bondo'd a pacecar spoiler to the fiberglass body.  I made a rediculous offer on the car and the salesman was all too happy to unload it.

Anyway, I set up my garage and proceeded to strip the orange, bought a book about painting and borrowed a compressor and paint gun and repainted it with Acrylic Laquer. The spoiler had to be chisseled off paintstakingly as to avoid damage to the body. I installed a 1980 rear bumper as seen in the following pictures.  About a year later I sold it for a pretty good profit.
