250 Testa Rossa Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Having trouble with repairing the left rear fender opening on a build of the Monogram '65 Shelby GT350R. I want it to be correct compared to the real car. The opening on the right looks okay, but the left, not so much. Are there any suggestions on how to repair the left rear? Please let me know. Thanks!
65slotcar Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 they look very close, and Shelby r-models never were perfect and refined race cars.
250 Testa Rossa Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 The car I am doing is serial 5R101, which is the Harr Ford car. 5R101 received a major restoration to original specs following a very bad accident during the 1986 Monterey Historic Races. The car has the original style rear flares on it now, and that's the version I am doing. To my understanding, the right rear is correct, but the left needs work.
Plowboy Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 If you have a circle template, you can place it on the body and get your mark. If not, take a larger sized tire and use it as a template. You could also use the tire on the model like a compass.
Venom Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 On the right side rear, you could place a stiff piece of paper behind the wheel well and tape it in place, then lightly and carefully trace along the edge of the fender with a fine point marker. After you have that pattern, you can cut it out and flip it over and use it as a template for the other side. It should help you pinpoint which section of the fender needs cut away.
Venom Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Just for comparison, this is a Monogram GT350 I started on... the fenders on it look to be slightly differently shaped than yours. All said, I would tend to agree with what 65slotcar posted above
250 Testa Rossa Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 Here's where I'm at guys. I don't think I'm that far off, but it might need some slight tweaking.
