I don't think he found Santa too scary, but I do think he thought we were going to leave him there. He has zero problems going anywhere else. Vet is no big deal. Same for going to the folks that board him while we're out of town... In fact he loves it there. We have a groomer come and he runs out to see her, so like I saw, no issues with anything. 3

He's a normally pretty mellow guy, but he was a bit on edge when we got there. Completely out of character for him. We got our turn with Santa and didn't he lift his leg on the poor guy. Seems there was a "intact" dog in before him that marked old Santa's boots. No one was upset, except us, and Santa was wearing rubber boots and had a bucket of soap and water with a brush to clean up. We decided not to take him back the next year. Dogs have long memories, and this place probably wasn't on the list of places he would want to revisit.

I'd say that was true. We don't have a lot of history on our dog, but we were told a couple things. One was that he was brought in with another dog that was deemed too dangerous and was put down. The other was that he was chained up outside. Some of that makes sense, as he seems to get a bit "needy" and looking for us to sit with him. I think he misses the other dog. As far as chained up, the fur on his neck showed that must have happened. He has great house manners though, so we think something happened where he ended up outside... Or possibly the other dog was the problem. We'll never know. This is actually a little rare for us to only have one dog.... We've talked about getting him a buddy, but one dog is enough at this time.

Show him all the love and appreciation you can and I'm sure he will return it in kind. He's had a rough life.

We think he's about 10. 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 This is Cyprus. He's 5 and hangs with me wherever I am. He sits right by my leg while I'm working. He has 0.0 concept/concern for my personal space. 8

LennyB Posted January 7 Posted January 7 This morning it was 14 degrees when my dog Gracie went out to do her business. When done she came racing back into the house and sped down the hall. This pic tells the rest of the story. 1 3
JollySipper Posted January 12 Posted January 12 My little compadre here is getting to the age that he's kinda 'testing' me a little...... Right now it's seeing if he can get me to walk him! LoL.... It's always at the most inopportune time, too. Is he getting big, guys?! He's a good dog, though......... Really couldn't ask for a better one! 1
Nazz Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Hi Guys, Bandit had his first puppy agility class yesterday. Here he is figuring out how to get the treats out of the puzzle toy! TJ...I remember that look well, our Sugar Rae use to give me that look all the time! As for size , how big are we talking here. Bandit is 31 lbs. at 5 months but size is relative. We use to have a 140 lb. Great Pyrenees next door and it forever changed my view of what I now consider to be a big dog . He looks very sweet. Thanks for sharing guys. Jerry
JollySipper Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Emmett weighs about 65 pounds.......... His first B-day is coming up some time in February. I was thinking at one time that he may be a Pyrenees mix of some sort, as he has a lot of their mannerisms along with being a huge white dog.......... Bandit looks to be making short work of that treat puzzle! Need to get my ol' boy one.......
Nazz Posted February 8 Author Posted February 8 A little late but a couple of weeks ago we took our dogs to an agility trial. It was Bandit's first trip out of town and he did great! He is a very good traveler, very quiet and he seems to enjoy going places. Here is a pic of him and Diesel ,his older brother, in the motel room. On our last trip Diesel earned his advanced agility games title! It was his last Q he needed in snooker to complete the title. He also got a Q in Steeplechase which he hadn't done before. Whiskey got a Q also. He was nervous but he powered though. He a nervous guy, but he seems to enjoy the game. I am very proud of our boys. Jerry 2

johnyrotten Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Harper decided to pay me a visit at the bench. It was difficult to get a pic, at a hundred pounds she thinks she's a lap dog. 2
JollySipper Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Harper looks like a really good dog! (they all are really)... Emmett does the same thing, trying to get attention while I'm building.... They want us thinking about them as much as they think of us! 1

She's a great dog, she has some "quirks" cause she's a rescue. She's got a little anxiety (compulsive licker) but she's super smart and gets along with my other dog harley very well. He's the boss and half her size. 1
TonyK Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I just took my rescue dog to the vet yesterday to see what can be done about his compulsive licking. Didn't used to be this bad. He licks the carpet, bedspread, my pants, the other dog...... Vet suggested a Thundershirt or an Adaptil collar that releases some kind of pleasant aroma that is supposed to calm him. We started with a little sweatshirt that keeps him warm and I have the collar on order. There's always the pills (forget the name) they can take but neither the vet or I are keen on altering their personality. 1

My wife and I feel the same way with the drugs, we have some Kong toys that get filled with peanut butter. And stuffed animals for her to chew on. And they both love water bottles for chewing.

Whiskey is afraid of a lot of things also , we have tried the calming spray and it does help him some, we spray it on his collar. Our guy seems to go though phases , for instance, we practice in a barn for agility and just after Christmas he noticed the overhead fand and lights and shut down. He would only do one jump at a time. Since then he has gotten better and it doing his usual following the coarse we ask him to do . Whiskey is also a compulsive licker as you describe. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, I should have asked if your dog has fear issues? I hope this helps. Jerry 1
