4silverado Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 I'm using this kit since it is close to the 2002 that I had. Since I wanted to lower mine (but never got around to it), this gives me a chance to do it. Mine was Gray Metallic (which I happen to have some touch up paint left) with gray cloth interior. I've own 4 of these extended cabs (2002 through 2004) and some of the things that I've done to my trucks will make it onto this one, like removing the body molding. I don't like the fact that the exhaust runs under the axle instead of over it but since my truck had a Flowmaster single in dual out cat back; it'll be close. The one thing that I've done on all of my trucks has been a bowtie 3rd brake light (this might be an interesting feature if I can figure out how to do it). Since I can't work on my truck right now, this will give me an opportunity. I'd like to find a stock flat hood and the regular mirrors. Oddly enough, I noticed that the mirror glass for the stocks are in this kit, but the base is not.
Mattilacken Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Nice start on a modern classic of a truck. I am also working on this kit but will only use body parts. What I noticed on my original kit was that the chassis was warped so some heat was needed to straighten it. keep at it!
4silverado Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 Made some progress. I didn't like the way the exhaust mounted under the axle versus over like every truck I've seen. Working on changing this to resemble the Flowmaster single in dual out that I'd installed on my 1:1. Also, I didn't like the transmission pan. None of mine had that dimple, so I've shaved it off.
4silverado Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 Muffler is from an old Cutlass; color will be changed. Also, decided not to do the gray. My current truck is maroon with tan interior. This is what I think I'm going with on colors.
4silverado Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 Also, remembered that I had some parts in Purple Power. I tossed them in a couple of weeks ago and forgot about them until today. Oh well, it did the trick. On my truck, a couple of these parts are more silver than chrome.
steveracer Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Wonder why they pulled this model after the 99 model year? A cut line on the driver side rear door was all needed to move forward with this. anyone have one of these kits to trade? I owned a 99 Grabowski and was the best truck ever for 17 years. Would like to replicate it.
4silverado Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 1999 - 2002 is the same front end. Chevy updated the front end styling in 2003 and then again in 2006. My current truck is a 2004. Honestly, its more than a scribed rear door on the driver's side to make it a 4 door extended cab. You'd need to make the rear inside door panel match the opposite side (key item being the inside door handle. Personally, I'd like to see a 2003-2005 Silverado. I haven't found one of these, not even in resin.
4silverado Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 I've been wanting to open up the grill. I've got some mesh that I'll install behind the grill.
Painted Black Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Glad to see somebody else building this kit, I'm working on the same one right now, I will be building mine slammer style just so I can get it done. Heres a mock-up of it.
Mattilacken Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Looking good! Will also open up my grill but will leave the ribs in, sand from behind. since we have pics of to builds in here I post a pic of mine found under other racing.
Mattilacken Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 A question, on the 1:1 is the bed more narow in the end (over the tailgate) than in the front of the bed. Seems to be almost 2,8 inches.
4silverado Posted March 13, 2021 Author Posted March 13, 2021 Mattilacken I just measured my 1:1, and its 64 at cab and 62 at tailgate.
Mattilacken Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 Okay, Thanks! Then the Revell bed is quite accurate! Will se if I widen the bed to get the extra clearance for wheels or make some wide arches..
