I’ve been working on learning how to use my airbrush and craft paints and started to work on a ‘66 GT 350 I’ve had for a couple years

I picked some metallic blue that I thought would be perfect.  I sprayed it at about 40 psi, from about a foot away - about 3 light coats and a nice heavy wet coat. I dried with a hair dryer between coats. Then 2 light coats of future and one wet coat.

I let it sit for a few days and the waxed it with meguires cleaner wax.  I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. 01E6E87D-F810-46CE-9F27-996064DC5C63.thumb.jpeg.2d27231b20f67530ec3ebdd34e9cdf5e.jpeg4DDD54E5-799B-4C50-BE86-BE4C2AB2EA6B.thumb.jpeg.5964f42bdef407c387af9d4e8cc0520c.jpeg0CE65784-1944-464F-A63A-C980FCA5DB35.thumb.jpeg.b6b4ab67da5844bd1f72a37384b5d52f.jpegEF6C7608-3EBB-402B-9F94-E7FC3A3D7D1C.thumb.jpeg.d54dc66b4fa5a41e23cdd54afd61cac9.jpeg

I destroyed the windshield, first with a drip of glue, then I cracked it trying to sand and polish it.

I have a new windshield on the way from eBay.

Thanks Mike!  I did not use primer at all.  I prepped the body by wet sanding with 600 grit sandpaper and wash and dried thoroughly. I really have found the the first couple of coats need to be very light. I dried each coat with a hair dryer to make sure that they were dry to the touch.

I put the the future on right away, a couple thin coats then a good wet coat. I bought the paint at hobby lobby41ED909E-4502-461A-92A0-E1D0485A1C7A.thumb.jpeg.e1dc28a7c4eee24904e1c2adb9b977ec.jpeg

Some additional pics of the engine, under carriage, and interior. I’m happy with the way this is turning out. Certainly not too detailed, but this is the first kit I’ve built in many years. Not trying to frustrate my self with it

That looks good Chaz.   May I ask, what primer and which craft paint did you use?? Also, how long after sprayng the craft paint did you use the Future?

Mike I just realized I should have quoted you. Please see above for the paint and prep reply

Beautiful paint and color". Real nice work so far...

Thanks Carl.  This has been lots of fun.  Once I get the windshield, I'll be able to button it up

Nice job on the paint there. I've been thinking about trying some of those out myself.

Thank you.  Its a bit of trial and error.   I painted lots of spoons!

When you get your new windshield, do not use the glue you used previously.  Here’s a few options for clear glass..

I got this at Michael’s in the scrap book dept. double sided clear tape. Comes in different widths.

And two choices of glues made for glass. The Evergreen brand is at Hobby Lobby.
I will often tape across the top edge of windshield and then glue down remaining edges. Glue dries clear, any smears come off with water without damaging your glass

Thank you for the tip.  No more model glue on the body or clear parts for me!

Hopefully I can button this up without botching anything else ....

No problem Chaz. Interesting that no primer. One thing for sure, it eliminates any flaws in the primer showing in the color coat. Looks like the rest of the model is coming along nicely. Don't know if you saw my WIP post for the GT350H i'm finishing up.

Thanks, got a bit of a hiccup now with it. Decalling issues?

I'm skipping the decals on this one,  not sure how the gold decals would look with the blue.  If the decals were white, on the other hand  I'd take a chance on it.

The paint finish looks great. You mentioned that you were using 40 psi, this seems a little high only based on what others here have said to use. Looking at your finish I wonder if I maybe the higher pressure could be a better idea.

Personally, I think the gold decals would look good on the blue. Some Mustang GT350H's were actually painted blue, tho not as dark as yours.

Thank you for the compliment!  The airbrush/compressor I have is from harbor freight.  I dont think there is a way to lower the psi with the regulator on it.  I am very pleased with the paint on this body an will probablly leave it alone.

I will be painting the body of a Charger for my next build.  I plan on a metallic green I bought.  Over black, it looks like a good match to brittish racing green.  I post some progress pics of the painting
