CURRENT BID: $105,000

?

Hmmm, looks like it had a quickie Krylon spray bomb "restoration", at least on the rearend, presumably to cover up the surface rust:

Description in the link says it has undercoat applied when delivered new.  Looks like they even got parts of the exhaust system.

I have to think that if someone were doing the spray bomb resto, they'd do a better job than this.

Leads me to think this is original 1975 undercoating.

Nobody undercoats the brake drum backing plates and wheels, and if you've seen vintage undercoating up close, you'd know it's much thicker and unevenly applied than what's seen on the underside of this Blazer. Undercoating applied in 1975, with a vehicle driven 57k miles isn't going to have any remaining on the muffler in 2021. It would have burned off within the first 3 miles of the muffler heating up. Having lived in WI my entire life, and owning several vehicles which were undercoated when new by Ziebart, etc, I doesn't look like undercoating.

By "restortion" I meant, quick, dirty, and easy way to make things look presentable underneath. It's just a quick spray over to make it look prettier. I'm not doubting it was undercoated at some point, just that the clean, even coat of black visible on the underside is not the undercoating which was applied in 1975.

At any rate, it appears to be solid, but the seller took some slightly unscrupulous used car lot dealer steps to make this vehicle appear better than it is.

Not 57k miles, this one has only 57 miles.

I haven't seen 70s undercoat, but I know what it looked like in the 80s or 90s. And it definitely depends on who is doing the work. I've seen undercoat so thin you can see the paint underneath, and I've seen it sprayed on so thick that it has started to drip.

I just think if one were to do some quick touch ups underneath to prep it for sale, they would have done a better job. Especially if they knew they'd be taking almost 400 pics to document it. I've done that kind of touch up on trucks before, and have had my detailers do that while getting vehicles ready. If that kind of work was presented to me as complete, I'd be ticked. Ahh well, not everyone is as picky as me.

Anyway, sold for $112k. That has to be close to a record for a square body.

Ahh, that's quite a difference. ?‍♂️ I thought it was 57,000 miles. Makes sense with that few miles the undercoat might still be on the muffler, but not sure how that would happen.

Someone got themselves a nice display truck which is only going to go up in value.

Nah, gotta go with Casey on this one - that is some spray can touch-up on that rear end, I don't care if it only has 57 yards on the OD. I've seen plenty of this, even done some, in the body shops I've worked in.  Look at the tire, you can clearly see. where they sprayed the rim and some of the tire, partially covering the brake dust on the tire. We loved Krylon Semi-flat Black because you couldn't tell if you got some on rubber; it made tires look new, could cover white letters or white walls, and was quick and convenient to touch up.
