gseeds Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 First time for me building this kit, monogram 1958 thunderbird bubble top, this pretty much went together with no problem, with exception of the doors, those at the last minutes of the build got glued shut, wanting it to look pretty custom I shaved everything, added round rod to the body lines and molded in , rounded hood corners, also reworked front bumper and molded it in, then adding a metal flake silver base and fogging with house of kolor candy teal and a 2 part automotive clear, silver and teal interior, built box stock, I went ahead and painted the stock roof so I can switch if I like, all in all a fun and neat kit and took about two weeks on and off to build, Thanks for looking guys !! 8
Claude Thibodeau Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Hi Gary! The paint is totally "era correct", bravo! If I may: what was the problem with the doors, exactly? I have this kit in line for "production", and your experience would avoid me problems, I guess... CT
cobraman Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Another beautiful and cool model. I did this kit not long ago. I was able to get the doors to work kinda, sorta but not well. I should have just glued them. Weak hinges I think.

CT Hi CT, i have an original cream colored 1964 issue built, and doors work just fine, I’m guessing this kit has been reissued so many times over the year’s that the tool for this kit has seen better days, i guess if I had fitted and worked a little on the door jams I could have gotten them to open and close a little better, but by the time I noticed the fit I had already painted the the model, and I wasn’t going to start removing paint, thanks CT, have a good one!! 1
espo Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Very impressive body work and the ability to have different roof treatments. I never realized the Bubble Roof was that long before. The Paint Fade effect looks great. Reminds me of the Kustoms from long ago.

Koellefornia Kid Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Looks much better than the one on the box! Well done! The doors on mine will stay shut forever...?
gseeds Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 Thanks guys for the nice comments!! Glad you like it !!

Yes espo, that roof is very long , I thought about cutting it down some how and adding a chrome band from side to side to cover the cut.but I didn’t.

doorsovdoon Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Beautiful! As Dave said, looks like the kustoms from the 60's releases. I really like these retro custom builds, especially as well done like this. Very nice.
Falcon Ranchero Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Looks cool; I have built this kit too, the 1966 reissue, though as a very very mild custom.
ea0863 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Total beauty Gary! Kind of a John D'Agostino meets Gene Winfield vibe between the design and paintjob. Thanks for posting!
1959 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Great build and very nice paint job. I really like your idea of not gluing the bubble top so you can change back to the original one too. I have the kit in my stash too but haven't yet decided what to do with it. Bubble top is certainly quite long and I used it for 60 Ford custom build. Had also a plan to cut in half and add chrome bands but left it as it is.
Sledsel Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) Looks really sharp! Loved seeing it with the stock windshield and roof. Edited March 26 by Sledsel
Jay Whittaker Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Absolutely LOVING the fade work on this!! Your paint has always been stunning to say the least! BEAUTIFULLY done!
Ragtop Man Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Oh hell yes! Great job - one of my first Monogram builds was the T-Bird, which stalled out with the complication my wire axle brain couldn't process (yet) Dad helped me get it together when he could see I'd stalled out. Once I started following the instructions, it got a little easier. Funny how that works in life. Think it got a cammer from a '68 Galaxie that we'd parted out to make a mold to do slot car bodies, like the #10 Bill Champion car we'd seen in Milwaukee over that summer. (IKR?)
