Rocking Rodney Rat Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 (edited) I bought the recently re-issued '72 Chevrolet Racer's Wedge/Pickup on a whim the other day.... I figured I might build it one day. I started looking at the ramp section of the kit (it also has parts to build a stock pickup truck as well)...while talking with Kit Karson about the kit, he reminded me he had sent me a '41 Ford COE based on a Jimmy Flintstone body that he had started. He had cut off the cab section and replaced it with the cab from a Monogram '40 Ford pickup, while giving the top a slight chop. I mocked it up with wheels and tires form the Monogram Ford F350 and well....another project in the works.... Follow along as I attempt to make this look like something.... -RRR (& KK) Edited March 2, 2021 by Rocking Rodney Rat
misterNNL Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 (edited) Based on this one view I like it. Any more pix avail ? Edited March 2, 2021 by misterNNL My kindle thinks it knows what I'm trying to say.
alan barton Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 That's about as far as I got with a mock-up based on a Jimmy FLintstone 48F1 cab! Mine's a few years away from getting back on the bench but I will be very interested to watch progress on your project. Cheers Alan

Bullybeef Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 I like the COE idea, I have started a similar project last month with a 37 Ford cab (non-coe).
Dennis Lacy Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 This will be fun! But I think you need to downsize the front fender arches ?

Rocking Rodney Rat Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 I'm glad you still had those pix, KK!! He does such awesome job, doesn't he? The amazing part is that KK sits and studies the subjects, measuring, eyeballing, scribing, marking, gauging.... and when he grabs the Sawzall, it all fits back together in a precise manner. Me? I just start whacking and then I fix it in the mix. We get (pretty much) equal results.... -RRR
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted March 5, 2021 Author Posted March 5, 2021 Ok, here's more... I really didn't like the wide open wheel wells, so with a bit of scoring and cutting of styrene, they look a little better, IMHO.... after a little sanding and a schmear of putty, it will look a LOT better....more this weekend.... -RRR
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted March 11, 2021 Author Posted March 11, 2021 (edited) I haven't made much progress on the COE lately. I did shoot a guide coat of primer, there's a few areas to address, but looks pretty good. My paint has arrived..... I did start working on a visor from the Revell '49 Mercury woody wagon. I narrowed it and shortened it...more work to be done it still. way too long.... That's better.....Hopefully more work will progress this weekend..... -RRR Edited March 11, 2021 by Rocking Rodney Rat
Kit Karson Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 I saw this and thought about the Kustom '41 Ford COE Ramp Truck

Rocking Rodney Rat Posted March 14, 2021 Author Posted March 14, 2021 (edited) I turned my attention to the ramp this week. I started assembling some of it prior to paint. The minimal MPC instructions leave a few initial questions as far as the open compartments and provided (or lack thereof) interior panels. I fabbed up a few sides not provided to ensure items don't fall out of the compartment! Interestingly enough, the box art shows that both moveable ramps slide into the area below the main 'floor' of the wedge. see them tucked in? well the truth is that both of them DON'T fit! So, decided to trim off the triangle side parts and add thinner styrene edges to narrow the ramps to fit under. I also shortened them as I won't need them to be so long as the whole COE and ramp will be lowered (praise the lowered). the new edges need to be sanded up and shaped....I also tidied up the rear valance as it was just left open as per MPC designed it. That will give a nice spot for tail lights and license plate.... -RRR Edited March 14, 2021 by Rocking Rodney Rat
Dennis Lacy Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Nice work tuning up the flaws of the ramp body. It's one thing that the compartments weren't fully boxed in but seriously, nobody realized the ramps wont fit in their storage area?! Way to go MPC!
Paul Payne Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Looking better and better- will this be a weathered build?
Intmd8r Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 I'm really enjoying this build and its progress. Can't wait to see the final product!
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted August 5, 2021 Author Posted August 5, 2021 Thanks for the comments. This kinda got sidetracked...it's still sitting over on the side of the bench, so it hasn't been tossed back into a box, so there's still hope it might get its turn some day....yes, I was thinking some light weathering on this one... -RRR
