papajohn97 Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Ok, look's like my Nova posting worked so here's another recent build. This is the Moebius kit, built OOB except for the after market resin carbs, aluminum velocity stacks and pre-wired distributor and odd PE, springs and wires. I used the large kit decals based on a very good experience with the Moebius "California Flash" kit which were fantastic too work with and, even though they were white, ended up being very opaque when. applied over an orange base. While also excellent for color and opaqueness, these Melrose Missile decals ended up being much more difficult to apply and settle down. The scoop decal was slightly undersized so I had to use blue touch-up paint around the edges. Tamiya light metallic blue (TS-54) ended up being a pretty good match for these decals. Other than decals, this Moebius kit (like their other '65 Plymouth kits) assembles with little fuss. I tend to build at least two kits at a time so I always have something to work on while I'm waiting for paint to cure. I have a '65 Chevelle SS (Kelly Chadwick) and a '64 Thunderbolt (Gas Ronda) in process and will post these hopefully in the near future. It's really nice to have so many great early 60's super stock drag car kits out there, it seems like I'm more limited these days by appropriate decals that are available. John 1
High octane Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 WOW John, that Missile build is just BEAUTIFUL. Great job on that car.
TarheelRick Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Are you sure that engine shot is not a 1:1? The detail is outstanding.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Very nice build, super clean and realistic look! ?
oldscool Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 I love it! The turned wheels are a nice touch as well.
TransAmMike Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 That is awesome John!!!! I'm quite sure you built the exhaust system as the real cars', but that it's some odd looking !!
R. Thorne Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Geez! The engine is great. How did you make the velocity stacks?
papajohn97 Posted March 21, 2021 Author Posted March 21, 2021 Thanks Ron as well as the others above who have left kind comments. The turned aluminum velocity stacks are made by Detail Master (item #3295). These are not really period correct for ‘64-65 Mopars, they should be shorter with more of a right angle ‘L’ profile like the molded ones included by Moebius. I wish DM or other after market sources offered the more classic Mopar stacks. I may just drill out and re-metalize the molded stacks included in the kit on the next Moebius hemi I build.
Mieser Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Very nice build. The detail on that engine is just amazing!
majel Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Very nice clean build. I love the 60's and 70's drag cars!
Hmann68 Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Fantastic! The under hood details are great. Well done ?
larman Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Outstanding job! Great paint and that engine is fantastic!
Kromolly Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Spectacular! Just fantastic all around. Great looking car.
Scott8950 Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 The whole build looks great but the engine bay is very nice.
espo Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Beautiful looking build. I thought it was a photo of a real car at first. The attention to detail and especially the engine are something to be studied.
