Back in 1985, I bought amt's Mach 1 and turned it into some kind of low-level racer using decals from different kits.

It was a real "quickie-project" - I don't think it took more than 10 or 12 hrs. - the interior and bottom got a silver spray paint using car rim silver (directly on the bare plastic - which works great), the yellow moulded body and wheels were simply clear-coated - that was it!

Pic of kit found on the internet:

Very cool.  I think that kit even came with the rear window braces.  MPC was just a few years behind the T/A series popularity and by the time thy attempted to make a race car the series was no longer supported by the big three like in 67-70.  Warren Tope ran a 73 body Mustang and Steve Andrews ran in at least one race at Daytona in a Mustang sportsroof.  Even Dale Earnhardt ran a highly modified 71 Mustang in dirt track races.

You may want to paint the front and rear spoilers semi-gloss or flat black but otherwise I’d leave it the way it is.

Thank you, Rex - it should indeed represent something like a T/A racer, even one class below.

I wanted to keep it in a monochrome paint scheme then and sold it off with more than 70 other builts in the last couple of months..

Not as fictitious as you thought.

Thank you for the pics, Rex - I wanted to say that my livery (starting number, sponsors etc. are totally fictitious - "similarities with actual race cars are coincidental"...)

Wow, that turned out pretty good with a limited amount of work. Always like it when someone takes a kit and does something different with it especially when it's a race car. Shows off their skill and imagination. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Tony - it was a quick build for in-between - sometimes you need something that doesn't take long.

I like it! Nicely done. The build has a great old school type look to it. This kit often gets slagged in the forums, and I can see why, but it has been one of my favourites since I was a kid. I built two back in the day, both the Macho Mustang release, and they were two of the coolest looking models on my shelf.

Thanks, Trevor - most of my built-ups are "old school" - no airbrush, trim in most cases silver paint, no expensive aftermarket parts...
