1959scudetto Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 When was the last time you saw 20 Hubley kits at the same time? A German ebayer has them for sale - my question: which one is recommended? Mark Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Of the plastic car kits, the Ford station wagons are the rarest, particularly the 1962. The Ford sedans would be next, then the Renault. The Rolls Royce, Triumph, and Mercedes-Benz have been reissued many times by other companies, but the earlier Hubley kits will be in better condition with cleaner details. Of the metal car kits, the '32 Ford (really a '27) and Indy racer are the most sought after. The other cars were available for many years, but again the early production kits are probably more desirable if you intend to build them as the parts will probably have sharper detail.
Mike999 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Thanks, that was interesting. I'd add the Nash Metropolitan to my "Wanted" list. I don't believe it has ever been re-issued. The French company Record also made a Renault Dauphine in 1/25 scale (according to Scalemates). But it's even harder to find than the Hubley kit.

Mark Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 There was also a Premier Renault Dauphine kit. It's not as good as the Record one, but can probably be found more easily. I have a rebuildable/complete Record Renault Floride, I really should do something with it. I have heard (in the distant past) that Heller was going to tool a Dauphine. It's hard to understand why they never got around to that car. People here forget that briefly Renault was giving VW serious competition over here.
RSchnell Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I've built a bunch of the metal Model A's over the years, but never knew Hubley made a plastic '62 Ford Wagon. I need one of those! I wonder what became of the metal model kits? Never got the chance to build the Packard or Duesenberg or any of the Model T's. I think the lineage was Hubley, Gabriel then JLE Scale Models which I think was a subsidiary of Ertl?
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 The only one that I think I would enjoy building is the Metropolitan. Steve

Just ask - it will only cost a few seconds of time...
Rodent Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 Have this dumb idea of asking one of my colleagues at our location in Köln if he would receive a package for me and ship it on...........

iBorg Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 I'd check with the auction company and see if they have a global shipping program that would get it to the US.

That's a real nice full-detail kit; multi-piece body like old Revell kits. The roof appears a little less rounded than it should be, maybe. It is of course the home-market version with the smaller headlights. I have a box of Record and Hubley components plus parts of a Heller Gordini: I have a second Hubley Dauphine in the works. The problem they have is the glass - it seems to be some form of acetate and all I've seen have shrunk. The interior is pretty basic with seats molded in. I've got two of the '60 Ford wagons - one decent, one rough; a '61 wagon I picked up 40 years ago and started; a '61 sedan that I may flip if the paint comes off OK, and a '62 wagon promo (more common than the kit but still fairly rare). 1959scudetto Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 Yesterday I saw that the 1961 and 1962 Ford Station wagons went for about € 58 or 55 (which is in the $ 70 range) without postage - might be reasonable for such an old kit, but was still too expensive for me (in the US the price probably would have risen much more, I guess)
Bainford Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 Yes, I would think that was a very good buy. I seriously considered making a run at either of those Fords, but decided against it. They were the nicest examples I’ve seen offered.
