bbowser Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 I'm working on a Wave brand F1 Tyrrell. The tires are nicely molded vinyl or rubber but seem to be very tacky. I've cleaned them with dish soap and a toothbrush but they still pick up every speck of dirt, I can't seem to keep them clean. Any ideas?
kruleworld Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 it sounds like the vinyl is breaking down. maybe coating them in urethane would help seal them?
espo Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 You might try a very short dip in the purple pond. I did this to remove a sort of white film on a set and it worked without damaging the tire.
Fat Brian Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 I got some aftermarket tires from ebay that were soft and sticky like that. I washed them to get all the crud off them shot them with Mr. Super Clear flat spray paint to seal the surface.
peteski Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Sounds like the material they used for tires is not very stable. I would be worried that it will get worse with age, and eventually the tires will start "melting".
