John Goschke Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) I've been working on this car for what seems like forever! Here's how it looked on eBay... A couple in-between steps, setting up the stance, using a '59 Edsel chassis... Here's the current state; a full mockup in primer... Finished the interior awhile back, after mixing in a '58 Plymouth steering wheel with the '59 Ford/'63 Galaxie XL mash-up. Mopar always had the coolest steering wheels! Also added a tube grill from a vintage Aurora Grill & Trim parts pack. Two chrome bullets from the original issue AMT '57 T-bird were added to the taillights for an additional custom touch. A Plastruct half-round strip molding was added to the tailgate to serve as a color-break between upper and lower body, and to give another touch of chrome. After noodling the body work, a coat of Tamiya White Surface Primer went on, followed by more body work touchups, then those areas received some spot priming with the airbrush. After a bit more body work and primer it should finally be ready for paint! Edited June 28, 2021 by John Goschke
Dave Darby Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I was wondering if you were still alive! That Ranchero is gonna be peaches!
larman Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Looks like another beauty! You have a great eye for this type of build!
bisc63 Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 This is very appealing! Love the '59 Fords, love a good mild custom.
Geno Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Man, that's gonna be sweet John, i dig the '59 Fords, way under appreciated car.
misterNNL Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Looking very nice. It's unusual to see a '59 Ford here in any body style.
John Goschke Posted June 28, 2021 Author Posted June 28, 2021 Thanks for all the comments, guys! Now that the model is taken apart for the final push to the finish line, I can share some pics of the interior... 1
alan barton Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Hi John, I saw this on the H.A.M.B. the other day and now realise I was totally barking up the wrong tree. When I saw glimpses of coral coloured plastic I just assumed you had reworked a Revell Skyliner into a Ranchero - didn't know about the PMC version prior to your post! Anyhow, I love what you are doing and it will be very helpful for me in working out the proportions of my conversion. Cant wait t see it in paint! Cheers Alan
espo Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Great work and I like the style of your build. The basic body and interior shell look like they were very well detailed when new. Don't ever remember seeing a kit of the '59 Ranchero before.
David G. Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Nice interior detailing, body work looks great too. David G.
John Goschke Posted July 21, 2021 Author Posted July 21, 2021 “Styletone” was Ford's designation for the color scheme with a contrasting color on the roof and lower body. I've always liked that scheme, particularly in combination with white (Tamiya Racing White, in this case.) For my mild custom Ranchero it's combined with Tamiya Candy Lime Green over Tamiya Silver Leaf. I have yet to shoot the clear coat. Let me know what you think. Incidentally, the scheme with a contrasting color on the roof only was called “Tutone.”
TarheelRick Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Going to be a very nice looking Ranchero. Sure wish some of these older molds could be found and reissued. 1
Dave Darby Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Is that two different shades of green with the white John? It looks great! 1

espo Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 I like the color combination and recall most of the Ford products would have the paint colors laid out in this fashion with the roof matching the lower body color. The great thing about the white color thru the middle is that white will go with just about any other color. Great looking interior and stance. 1
Bainford Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Nice looking Ranchero. I’m quite curious about this model. I never knew PMC. made anything like it. 1

I never knew PMC. made anything like it. Thanks, Trevor. PMC made '59 Ranchero and Country Sedan (wagon) promos, molded in acetate, in 1959. They later released them without clear parts or interiors as basic friction-powered toys. All of which turn up on eBay occasionally.
slusher Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Great looking Ranchero, real nice color choice also..
David G. Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Those colors look great on that, very eye-catching. A vast improvement over what you started with. David G.
Sam I Am Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 That is drop dead gorgeous ?. I used that same green on a 57 Chrysler and it really pops. Breaking it up with the white really sets it off. Kudos!
