cobraman Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Just wrapped this up . Nice kit but I did have some trouble with the decals . Seemed thin and a bit fragile . Maybe I had problems due to the decal size . Anyway ,, painted Testors Lime Ice. Shot some dull coat on the wheels to tone them down . Used mostly wires and hose that I had on hand because supplied ones were just too hard to make work . Built stock from the box otherwise . I used Duplicolor 1K for the clear coats . I know some of the colors I used on some things may be wrong . I used 3 different references and they were at odds on some details so I went with what I thought looked ok . 1
Mike Williams Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 You did good, Ray! This is the 1st one I've seen finished, and it looks super clean and neat. Well done. Also compliments on the photography and lighting, I do love a well presented model!
cobraman Posted July 30, 2021 Author Posted July 30, 2021 Thank you Mike ! My photos are too dark, I have to work on that.
Metaldrumm Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I need to get this kit, looks pretty good but if you zoom in looks like your blower belt broke on the bottom, happy modeling?
cobraman Posted July 31, 2021 Author Posted July 31, 2021 Thanks guys . Your right about the belt , it broke when I stretched it . Had nothing else good to replace it . I have used tape on smaller models but it did not look right on this . Maybe if I doubled it up ?? Too late now.
slusher Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Beautiful Vega funny car, Ray. Very clean build and I have trouble with decals also…
Hmann68 Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Looks fantastic! Great paint, and the engine detail is awesome, well done ?
Codi Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Ray, in the overall, was the kit what you expected? Nice work on yours. cheers, tim
cobraman Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 Thank you Tim. Having built a few 1/16 funny cars years ago I would have to say yes, it was as I expected it would be. The biggest negative I would say about the kit is the supplied hoses. I don't see anyway the material supplied for the plug wires could ever work. I just drilled out the valve covers and cut off the pins on the distributor and drilled it out. Not the best or neatest job but way better than the hose they give you for wires.
Daddyfink Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Nice build, but, my only caveat is the Parachute Line. It would rip the rear panel off that body as soon as it would deploy. Otherwise, nice build.
TonyK Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Great looking model! Thanks for the paint color info as it looks perfect and I need to get some to build mine. Don't worry about your color choices as I found in looking at reference photos you hardly see the same colors twice.
cobraman Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 Thanks guys. There are also some photos of the car running with 5 spokes up front.

sflam123 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Nice work on this project. It turned out well!! I certainly hope mine turns out as well!!
cobraman Posted August 6, 2021 Author Posted August 6, 2021 Thanks Stephen. I'm sure yours will look great !
Bernard Kron Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Larger scale models have a way of bringing out the best in modeler's skills, and this one is no exception. Great work on detail and execution. Bravo!
Claude Thibodeau Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Hi Ray! Masterful work, bravo! Your finishing of the powertrain is very realistic, the metal colors in particular. Impressive. CT
