Smoke Wagon Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 Howdy. This truck started as the reissued AMT Challenge mixer truck, the mixer itself will be going on a modified Ford Louisville truck later on, and this W-923 will be paired with the AMT Peerless logging trailer. I had to slightly modify the Peerless parts to fit on the KW frame, the frame was a sliver too narrow, my guess is that the Peerless parts were designed to go with the Mack R model, given the Peerless box art. I decided to make a stinger for the rear of the frame, as most trucks here have them to aid in cornering on tight logging roads. I went with a tapered design on the stinger. Most sub-assemblies are done, so it’ll be seeing some paint soon. 2
Jim B Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 Been looking forward to this since you mentioned it in your other W900 thread. Like Kenworths, do we? ? That stringer looks great.
kilrathy10 Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 That's looking awesome... Great work on the frame...The stinger looks awesome... That is gonna look, so cool... Can't wait to see what color you go with...
gotnitro? Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 wow ! nice work on the stinger !! These trucks sure had to be built heavy for the enormous loads they carried, and sub par travel routes..we wont call roads, wouldve torn a normal truck apart
Smoke Wagon Posted August 20, 2021 Author Posted August 20, 2021 Thanks everybody, the encouragement and kind comments mean a lot! 6 hours ago, Jim B said: Like Kenworths, do we? ? Just a wee bit more than Petercar 4 hours ago, kilrathy10 said: Can't wait to see what color you go with... I was thinking black for the frame, light brown for the cab and hood, and integrating the use of gold stripe decals from the reissued Chevy Rescue Van. 1 hour ago, gotnitro? said: These trucks sure had to be built heavy for the enormous loads they carried, and sub par travel routes..we wont call roads, wouldve torn a normal truck apart You got that right, I have memories of being (quite literally) tossed around in the back of the family Suburban on the times in the summer when my mom would rally up log roads to take my stepdad a lunch. Log roads are fun to put around on in a 4x4 though, but you’d wanna make sure you’re on an old road that’s not being used. Otherwise you’d take the chance of becoming a fashionable hood ornament for an Ireland truck.
leafsprings Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Kenworth is a great choice for a Pacific Northwest logger! Like the additions! The AMT logger trailer wheels are nice and were a very common wheel back in the day, but it appears, IMO, the AMT molds sank in between each hand hole. Nothing a little putty can't fix.

trick my mixer Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 I am sure this will look real nice when completed.
gatorincebu Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Riley, It looks like you are off to a great start on this project 1 I like the stinger you built. How long is it ? that will make an impressive model . Be Well Gator
Smoke Wagon Posted October 30, 2021 Author Posted October 30, 2021 Thanks Gator. 3 hours ago, gatorincebu said: How long is it ? The frame from rad crossmember to the end of the trailer latch is 13 and a quarter inches. The stinger itself is 1 & 7/8”, but keep in mind I did cut the rear of the frame right behind the last set of rivets before joining the stinger to it. Let me know if you need other dimensions, hope this helps. Progress has been slow on this one. I’ve been doing more work on other projects. Made and attached the taillight panel and mounts for the mud flaps. First coat of primer on but it looks like I need a little more filler in a couple spots. 2 1
Sam I Am Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 Really like what your doing with this. I live in logging country myself, and with a company yard close by, I have plenty of references. Hopefully I can get a couple built.
Smoke Wagon Posted January 27, 2022 Author Posted January 27, 2022 Small update, but more to come. Blew the dust off the box and woke this KW up from hibernation. Decided to go a different route with color, frame and bunks will be medium blue, cab and hood will be done up in Tamiya Racing White.
Mopar - D Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 Nice progress and your colors look good to.
tbill Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Frame looks great, terrific work on the stinger. Color combo is gonna look slick on this build.
Smoke Wagon Posted February 3, 2022 Author Posted February 3, 2022 Didn’t get as much progress done as I was hoping to lately but still going forwards. She’s a roller: And the Cummins so far: As for the cab and hood, I didn’t have any luck this time around with Tamiya or Rustoleum white, so I took that as a sign and went with Rustoleum Navy blue. Time will tell if that was a good choice or not.
slusher Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Really nice work, good looking color choices buddy..
Smoke Wagon Posted February 5, 2022 Author Posted February 5, 2022 Thanks guys, I hope so. It might need something to tie the two colors together.

I could also use the pinstripe decals from the ‘53 F100 kit I did a little bit ago: There’s a lot of choices and ways to go when it comes to these big rig kits. It seems that whenever I have this one on the bench, half the time is used actually building, and the other half is spent staring at it pondering on which way to go with it.
