Ceaser_Salad Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 "Careful with that axe Eugene" will always be one of my favourites. Whats everyone's fave album? Mine is either "Wish you were here" or "The division bell"
Rob Hall Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 'The Division Bell' I've probably listened to more than any other album...it was very much a part of the soundtrack of my mid 20s when I was in grad school..still love to listen to it when driving, or loud at home... I love 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' as well, 1987 was a year of some of my favorite albums from multiple musicians/bands. Other favorite albums include 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'Wish You Were Here', 'The Wall', and 'The Final Cut'...
iamsuperdan Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Pink Floyd are just about the only "60s" band I listen to. I like the early weird stuff with Syd. I like the 70s and 80s. I love The Division Bell. They toured here on The Division Bell tour and it ticked me off greatly that I couldn't get tickets. Mainly because it was the "cool" concert of the year and everyone was buying tix just to say they were there. Ugh.

I saw them on the Division Bell tour, great show at the old Cleveland Stadium in May 1994...last concert I saw w/ my Kent State college buddies, right before I moved to Ann Arbor, Mi for grad school. Great show. One of the best shows I've been to was in 2006 on David Gilmour's 'On An Island' solo tour at the late Gibson Amphitheatre in LA (Universal City). Beautiful small venue, great sound, Richard Wright and Nick Mason were with him, as was David Crosby and Graham Nash on a couple songs. Gilmour closed the show with 'Comfortably Numb'...
Muncie Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 So my son is away at college and getting used to dorm life. I go down to visit. He says, "I found this really cool band. Have you heard of Pink Floyd?" 2
afx Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 My favorite: 1 - Animals 1A - Wish You Were Here 1

They are both Baby Boomers, 21 and 13 years older than me, and I listened to a lot of their records and tapes as a kid when they were home…

afx Posted August 25, 2021 Author Posted August 25, 2021 Another of my favorite tracks and Ambulance LTD do a great job covering it.
GLMFAA1 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Had the opportunity way back as a student at Kent State to go on stage with the Floyd before their concert to announce the safety/fire exit notice before the concert. Naïve 22 year old kid who could care less who Floyd was. Played my brothers Dark side of the Moon till the other side played after that. greg
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I had the opportunity to see the Roger Waters, "The Wall" concert twice when he came to Minnesota. Fantastic concert, even though Roger was the only original band member present. My top 4 albums in order. The Wall Animals Dark Side of the Moon Wish You Were Here And yes, I even enjoy some of the music on "The Final Cut". Steve
Snake45 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I know I'm very, very late to this party, but I only recently discovered this song thanks to John B. Wells and his Ark Midnight/Caravan to Midnight radio program. JBW comes up with some really good stuff! 1
DPNM Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 My favorites are: the Wall Wish You Were Here Animals A couple of my Tees. They rarely see the light of day. I have been known to wear them occasionally when I need to dress up T1 front back T2 front back
1972coronet Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 My favourite albums , along with a few of my fave songs : - Piper at the Gates of Dawn . Again , sounds best in mono -- I have the 2007 issue ; gave-away the stereo disc to someone . Not a bad piece on the entire album ! - A Saucerful of Secrets . Richard Wright penned two of the best songs on the album : 'Remember A Day' and 'See-Saw' . The last album with Syd Barrett ; his 'swan song' was Jugband Blues . - Ummagumma . I had this on cassette many years ago ; now I have the double-disc . The cassette and the vinyl copies listed A Saucerful of Secrets in its separate movements : "Something Else" (0:00–3:57, slow closely miked cymbal fade-in and echoing organ, slide guitar) "Syncopated Pandemonium" (3:57–7:04, drum tape loop, cymbals, distorted guitars, piano) "Storm Signal" (7:04–8:38, chimes and organ) in the form of a passacaglia over a 16-bar bass line, continuing into the fourth section until the end of the piece "Celestial Voices" (8:38–11:52, bass, organ, mellotron and wordless chorus) - Relics . Composed primarily of singles ; all 1966-1969 songs . Includes my fave Richard Wright piece Paintbox . Has two tracks from Soundtrack to the Film 'More' -- 'Cirrus Minor' is gorgeous ! "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" from Atom Heart Mother is such a fun track ! - Meddle . The song "Seamus" features one of Steve Marriott's ( Small Faces , Humble Pie ) dogs by that name . The same track was later reworked and called "Mademoiselle Nobs" (think : Live at Pompeii ) . Honestly , I'm not much of a fan of their post Wish You Were Here works . Certainly , they're outstanding works ; they're just not my favourites to listen to .

I read somewhere that Syd wanted to add saxophone and chorus arrangements to their songs..... After he left the band, that's what they did. I always felt that they wished Syd was still a member. Those later albums were pretty much written to Syd, or what he would have wanted the music to sound like..... Kind of in his honor/remembrance..... 1

On the song 'Comfortably Numb', you guys ever give much thought to how different the two guitar solos are? One is before the Doc administers his meds, one is after...... It's like the first one is a little hopeful and bright, the second one is more brooding and dark. Okay ..... I never was a "fan" of any band, but them, just know what I like. I'm okay with links to your/our/my fav videos. ?
afx Posted August 26, 2021 Author Posted August 26, 2021 (edited) Mini biography of Syd Barret; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syd_Barrett Barrett visited the members of Pink Floyd in 1975 during the recording sessions for their ninth album, Wish You Were Here. He attended the Abbey Road session unannounced, and watched the band working on the final mix of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" — a song about him. By that time, Barrett, then 29, had become overweight and had shaved off all of his hair (including his eyebrows), and his former bandmates did not initially recognize him. Barrett spent part of the session brushing his teeth. Waters asked him what he thought of the song and he said that it "sounds a bit old". He briefly attended the reception for Gilmour's wedding to Ginger that immediately followed the recording sessions but left early without exchanging goodbyes with the newlyweds. Apart from a brief encounter between Waters and Barrett in Harrods a couple of years later (Barrett ran outside when he saw Waters, dropping his bags full of sweets),this was the last time any member of Pink Floyd saw him.
