Mr mopar Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) I have a decal sheet from the aftermarket and I want to make the lettering stand out with real gold leafing ? can it be done ? it's a 1/16th scale funny car . Edited August 25, 2021 by Mr mopar
Straightliner59 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I would guess that it would work, just fine. After you apply the leaf to the sheet, brush on a coat of Micro Superfilm. If you don't have that, a coat of clear should do the trick. Try it on an old sheet, first, to be sure, but I can think of no reason it wouldn't work.

Chariots of Fire Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Real gold leaf needs a sizing agent painted on the surface before transferring the gold from the sheet. It is like a clear varnish that needs to set and get tacky for the gold leaf to stick. When you lay the gold on the sizing agent it needs to dry there well before brushing away the excess gold. Not an easy thing even in 1:16 scale.
Straightliner59 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I have a Revell snapper '34 Ford that I applied gold leaf numbers to the doors. I will try to remember to post a photo, after work.
