Completed - Spirit of America Porsche 956

I would like to share my Spirit of America Porsche 956 with all of you.  I fell in love with this livery when I first saw it.  I found the Studio 27 decals and just had to build it.  This post will be a little photo heavy so be forewarned.  If you would like to see the WIP you can go here: WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers - Model Cars Magazine Forum.  A list of products used is listed there.  There is also a little rant within that thread so be forewarned about that too...lol.

Questions?  Ask away.  Comments?  Please post them.  Critiques?  I'm a big boy.  Maybe I'll learn something from them.

This model has only made it to one model contest so far.  I am pleased with the results.  It is nice to have your work recognized by your peers.

This is a shot of some test fitting during the build process.  The drivetrain is not complete in this picture but I thought it was kind of cool.

The rear cover is not fully in place, it is just sitting on the model.  The model will normally be displayed with it off.

Thanks, Chris!  I used a combination of Alclads and AK Interactive Xtreme Metals.  I tried to use as many different shades as feasible.  Your eyes will pick up on the subtle differences.  Even putting the same shade of metalizer over different primers will change them up enough to make it visually interesting.

Thanks, Josh!  The model was started in 2019 and set aside until a few months ago.  I dug it back out and finished it at the beginning of June.  The contest it won was held in the middle of June.  It just took me until this month to post it here. I’ve actually finished two more models since then which I will post here as well.

Thanks, Gary!  And yes, the decals were a challenge...lol.  The thing is, I love to decal work and I actually enjoyed doing these.  When I was first starting out I would get all flustered if the decals wouldn't lay right.  Now I realize that if I just take my time I can almost always get them to lay down and conform to the part they are meant for.  One of the biggest decisions that I had to make was which decal to lay down first.  Every other decal would key off of that first one.  I decided to start up front and in the middle.  I taped the rear cover to the front and left it that way until all of the decals were applied.  The other challenge was to keep them running straight.  The red stripes were prone to cracking and chipping.  I had to touch up a number of places.  Lastly, each star is an individual decal.  Each. One. ?

Thanks, Kurt!  The main thing about the stripes was to get them in place but not set in place, eyeball the stripes to make sure they lined up and then smooth them out without moving them…whew!  I really had to take my time.
