Chrysler 300c (low and aggressive)

Hello all,

This build (like many others) has been rattling around in my head for a while. Not quite ready to start it yet, as I need to finish my Impala wagon, but here’s the plan….

I’ve always thought the newer 300’s have a gangster look to them. A few things I know for sure. Colour will be Tamiya TS100 semi gloss gun metal with flat clear, wheels will be either dark bronze/gold, or dark smoke.  Am playing with several wheel options, but the 2 front runners as of now are in the photos. Build will be curbside and LOW, no engine (but imagine it has the Hellcat unit), no interior. Definitely a few minor body mods, hood and grill will be changed. I have a handful of hood scoops but hoping to blend in the Mustang hood in second photo. It’s almost certainly going to be a 2 door.

This one is killer aggressive, I probably won’t go quite that nasty…

So…. still planning this one but open to feedback and ideas guys. Hope to get it rolling in a couple of weeks.

Cool cars the 300Cs,  I've always thought these look slightly chopped as standard...

Just a suggestion, but interiors are quick and simple enough. And the engine is mostly hidden under a air cleaner, so personally I'd still build these things ?

If your gonna skip anything throw the suspension together, the cars going to be so low it's the only thing you won't see !

But hey, it's up to you, I'll have to have a go at building one of these myself one day !

I like these cars so I'll look forward to your build. The Hood Scoop idea you might look at some of the MoPar styles used on the Challenger or Cuda'. The dark Bronze wheels sound like they would look well with your color.

I'd stick a Viper V-10 in it with these wheels.

I'd also graft the center of the hood/scoops from an '09 Challenger into the hood.

Hi Steve!

Interesting styling statement, to say the least. If you keep it curbside, may-I suggest you go with your 2-door idea, but don't exclude a mild top chop /hardtop look as on the blue picture? If someone can pull it off, it's you!

Im of the same thinking as you Steve and Claude, 2 door version look so much better. 

Had this pic saved for years, inspiration for the Amt 300C kit in the stash.

Hi Martin, great to hear from you sir! With “low” in the title, I figured you might have a peek. I agree, they do look like they have a mild chop. Still thinking this one will be super simple. Interior door cards would need to be modified to 2 door,  if I add an engine it would be  a resin Hellcat, that would require mods… It all adds up, so probably not, but, still working out ideas. Thanks for the input!

Hi David, still have a few more scoops to dig thru, good ideas. I think I might have a Challenger in the stash… The gold/bronze wheels look good with the flat “steel” colour in my opinion, glad you agree.

Hi Roger! Thanks for the input. As mentioned above, still some digging to do in the stash for scoops. I REALLY like those wheels, where are they from please.

Claude! Always open to suggestions. Almost for sure staying curbside. Possibly a mild chop, if I chop it and make it a hardtop, I might shorten the whole thing a few scale inches. That’s one of the ideas rattling around my head.

Haha! It’s black!!!  Hi Luke, in my search I saw one almost identical to that, but it was a 4 door. That one is awesome! I actually really like it with a post, I also like the suicide doors, that might be on the menu too… Thanks for chiming in sir, and thanks again for the info on your scribing tool. It’s one of my favourite tools now.

I found them on ebay. Look up prostreethobbies. I bought a different set a while back and they're really nice! The rotors even have the vent detail! I plan on buying more just to have them around.

Hi Steve - You asked for them so here are my two 300's built shortly after the kit came out. On the grey one I added front chin and trunk edge spoilers, a mesh backing to the grill, tube exhaust tips and some photo-etched emblems. On the green one for fun I added front and rear body parts from the '57 300.

Very nice pair of 300 Chryslers you built. I really like your first picture you had listed with the black wheels you had. What ever you build I will watch.

Roger!, thanks for the info sir. I will definitely be purchasing some of his wheels. Not sure they will be on this build but very nice looking units.

Hi Phil, thanks for sharing those. I also plan on doing a chin spoiler, so that photo is helpful, the green one is a fun mashup, great idea.

Hi guys, with the Impala wagon finally done, time to jump in to this build.

Started work on the front end mods. Opened up the all the recesses, shaved off the raised “bumper” below headlights. I will still use the bumper inserts here but they will be slightly modified to tuck in a bit, and they won’t be chrome. I have several ideas for the grill, this one is a definite contender. Still lots of clean up to do but it’s a start…. The openings below the grill will likely become larger.

 

I also removed one of the B pillars too. Slid it back to get a feel for where pillar will go in 2 door configuration. Taped in place here, it’s close. I have 2 thoughts for the door handles. The easy out, shaved handles which will suit the build. The other thought is the cut out around 2 of the handles, flip them (driver side to passenger and vice versa) and mount them at the front of the door to create suicide doors. Hmmmmm. A lot of extra work. I might be able to trim off just the handle part, but it is pretty thin. More on that later.

Hi Steve, great to see you starting in on the Chrysler. A conversion to a two door with suicide doors sounds and looks pretty sweet! My most recent builds have been curbsides that I have enjoyed by putting in more time into interior detail and focusing on improving my painting skills of the chassis. I often get bound up on engine bay detail that extends the overall build time. 
As always I’ll be following your build, especially with the Chrysler as its styling is such a typical gangster ride.

Hi Misha, nice to hear from you sir. Déjà vu converting another 4 door to a 2 door. I’m aiming for full-on gangster with this one sir!

Hi guys, I enjoyed some desk time today, reasonably productive by my standards. 
 

Lots of fiddly work on the front fascia.

The very bottom is quite rounded and I didn’t like how it looked with the spoiler I made. So I added some half round styrene to help fill the void.

The leading edge of the front wheel opening also has more curve at the bottom than I want, so I added some styrene to that area to create a more vertical line to the spoiler.I decided to open the area below the grill up by removing the vertical strips.

Definitely needed a spoiler at the back too. Not too big, but enough to give it some attitude.

Managed to remove the door handles successfully. Haven’t decided if I will use them yet, that decision comes later…

Finally, I made some measurements and cut the new door. I used the same method as on my ‘65 Impala wagon. Made a template with aluminum and taped it in place so I had secure guide to scribe against.

In the last picture you can see I’m playing with ideas for new side trim. I still might just fill/remove the side trim to keep it “clean”. However, it might break things up a bit having a black “spear” down the side. All trim will be black, the only chrome will be the headlights and side view mirrors.

Great to see the step-by-step modifications Steve. I’m curious about the aluminium template’s weight, is it flashing or thinner like a soda can? Great idea by the way, step ahead of masking tape. Unsure about side trim, whether to smooth it out or not; by smoothing it it will appear more solid, muscular as on the previous photo…

Also what are you using as a filler for the former door handle position, and are you still contemplating suicide doors? Enjoying the direction you’re on with this kit.

I like your new front spoiler. This looks like a setup I have seen refered to as a Splitter. The side molding on the OEM models were body colored. They are seen but not as noticeable unless you want them to standout then match the window trim.  Since you're going for a real smooth look consider leaving the door handles off or doing something like the Kindigit style handles. Great looking two door setup.

Hi Misha, the aluminum has been “on hand” for MANY years so not sure it’s origin. It is backed with thin plastic on the back side. I would say it is similar in thickness to flashing, but softer. It gives a really good edge to trim against without fear of slipping.

After “sleeping on it” going with my original plan of no side trim. As I made the filler piece, it gave me the thought of a smaller trim piece looking good. The picture in your response is still the main influence for my build. As for filler, still using Tamiya, the only issue I have had with it was on the Impala wagon, and I believe it was the “hot” paint that caused the problem. So hoping no issue this time, fingers crossed! Still not sure on suicide doors, I will wait until I have new lines cut, old door lines filled and primer on it.

Hi David! Yes, I believe it is technically a splitter, wasn’t sure what language to use there. As mentioned above, there will be no side trim, which to your point, will keep the smooth look I’m after. Door handle decision will wait for now. The Kindig style is the flush mount, similar to a Tesla? I ask because that is one of the looks I have in my head.
