leafsprings Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 (edited) Modifying the WF SD kit to resemble a slightly older version. Going for a fleet truck, California Motor Express Edited April 19, 2022 by leafsprings
Jim B Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Nice changes so far. Are you planning on correcting the headlight location?
leafsprings Posted October 3, 2021 Author Posted October 3, 2021 (edited) I'll consider that change also, but may be beyond my skill level. Edited January 23, 2022 by leafsprings
leafsprings Posted November 21, 2021 Author Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) Finding more reference photos, headlight location looks like it will not be a problem for a higher '71 or '72 cab with older triangular front WF emblem and oval frontal air intake system. Added a few rivets. Colors will be black and white cab, black frame and orange wheels as shown in 1/87 scale athearn CME offering. Edited April 19, 2022 by leafsprings
leafsprings Posted April 4, 2022 Author Posted April 4, 2022 (edited) Finally out of the paint shop, interior is a goldish silver, exterior gloss black and white, CME fleet colors. Used the window less back panel for a more vintage look. Edited April 9, 2022 by leafsprings
raisin27 Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 I like what you have done so far. I had fun building this kit.
Straightliner59 Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 (edited) It's looking great! Day cabs are cool. Real workhorses. Edited April 17, 2022 by Straightliner59
leafsprings Posted April 17, 2022 Author Posted April 17, 2022 (edited) Thanks everyone for the positive comments! Added wheels from AITM, replaced the wedge brakes with S cam brake chambers and oval hole frontal air intake system. Edited May 11, 2022 by leafsprings
Rockford Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 That's a great looking job you're doing there. I would feel the headlight move would be too much for me, I'd be terrified of ruining the cab altogether.
leafsprings Posted May 19, 2022 Author Posted May 19, 2022 (edited) More progress, beginning to come together, almost done. Edited May 21, 2022 by leafsprings
Mopar - D Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Looking good Tommy your getting closer to finishing this awesome build.

There's a bunch of unusual companies that I think would be great to match up with these vintage rigs and trailers. I can remember Bekins, Branch, Mayflower, 3m, Sears, Navajo, Yellow Freight Systems, TC TransCon, P.I.E, Alpha Beta and Lucky Stores. They may not have been nationwide, but they were around a lot when I was a kid. And they had unusual color schemes to go on the rigs.
leafsprings Posted May 23, 2022 Author Posted May 23, 2022 (edited) You forgot Safeway, with the green, white cabs and red frames, the cab paint scheme was similar to CME. CME was one of the originals, started truck service in California in 1927. Later became part of Delta Lines which went of business in the mid 80's due to pressures from deregulation of the trucking industry. Found of an CME with older logo. Note tractor number.
