spencer1984 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Just wrapped this up after a 10+ year hiatus. It's based on the Modelhaus kit, which was the only '66 available at the time...until I was about halfway through and Revell announced their upcoming full detail kit. But I'm trying to knock off a few of these long-delayed projects, so here it is. I lowered the front suspension, modified the trim to match the show car, and painted it Tamiya Clear Blue over British Green to try to get the car's unique color. The wheels are from a Monogram Z/28, the bench seat, steering wheel, and mirrors are from my parts bos, and the rocket assembly is scratch built. As always, comments/criticisms are welcome. 1
Snake45 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Sweet, and nice job! I remember that episode. I wept for that poor Impala. I believe it was in '66 Chevy Tropic Turquoise Poly. If I were building that car today, I'd paint it in Testor LIttle Bottle Teal, which looks pretty darn close. Well done and model on!
Koellefornia Kid Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Cool! I loved that episode! Nice work!
happy grumpy Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I was a big fan of the show, your model brought me right back to that episode when that poor impala met it's demise. All that's missing is Jamie arguing with Adam. seriously though you did a great job. Congrats.
spencer1984 Posted October 23, 2021 Author Posted October 23, 2021 (edited) Thanks, guys! On 10/21/2021 at 11:39 AM, Snake45 said: I believe it was in '66 Chevy Tropic Turquoise Poly. That was my first thought, too, but comparing survivor Impalas to the Mythbusters car this one looked consistently darker. Between that, the patchiness in some places, and the missing trim, my guess is that it was repainted at some point by someone attempting to hit Tropic Turqouise and being happy with "close enough." I think your idea of Testors Teal would be right for it. Edited October 23, 2021 by spencer1984
Zippi Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I remember watching that show. Those fella's were a little on the raw side but also very street smart. Nicely done.
mrmike Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I remember watching that episode and how fast the car was. You did a great job on this one, Bill!
carrucha Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Good job on the replica. I still have an unbuilt Modelhaus 66 Impala SS that I bought before Revell released their 66 Impala SS.
