PowerPlant Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 BMW, apparently, since Hollywood heavyweight Hans Zimmer composed the engine sound of their latest electric M models in order to be perfectly “emotionally engaging” for the driver. Yea, you read that correctly. A musician composed the sound of a car ? On a side note, the cars are also ugly beyond words, sad to say they were designed by a fellow Croatian. But at least they’re gonna be expensive. Oh well, not gonna be buying that then ? https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0331949EN/bmw-m-gmbh-and-hans-zimmer-co-develop-the-emotionally-engaging-driving-sound-for-electrified-bmw-m-models?language=en
Rob Hall Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 BMWs latest styling trends make the Chris Bangle designs of the mid 00s look pretty good by comparison. My favorite era of BMWs is still the late 80s to early 00s (pre-Bangle).
JollySipper Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 I guess it's better than making "vroom vroom" noises yourself while driving one of the EVs.....

iamsuperdan Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I think electric car builders should allow clients to upload whatever piped in engine sounds they want. Need your Tesla to sound like a thumping big V8? No problem, upload the file. Want you Mach-E to sound like a Harley Fat Boy? No problem, upload the file. F150 Lightning sounding like a Kenworth? No problem, here's the file. Personally, I would want my EV to sound like The Jetsons' car. 1

We live on a cul-de-sac, so when she drives by at 10 mph I am sure she is on electric power. It makes an odd noise that isn't too far removed from the Jetson's car. Not sure if it is "piped in" noise or if it is from the climate control system.

Kind of a higher frequency hum. It is a sound you don't expect to hear from an automobile.
Rodent Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 No, it sounds too "generated". I have been around a lot of electric and hybrid cars and this one makes more noise than normal. Another neighbor has a Tesla and all you hear is the tire treads on the pavement.
